Jokic would be my MVP pick at the moment but Giannis would be #2. It really really bothers me that it’s being framed as a 2 man race between Jokic/Embiid, Embiid isn’t having a better season than Giannis and even if you think he is, it’s by a tiny margin and they’re on the same tier.

I think Giannis can steal it if we go on a run here though. Grab the 2 seed, put up a few dominating performances on national TV (Warriors game coming up being an important one) and he’s got a shot.

Yeah, Jokic seems like the absolute clear favorite to me. Giannis is better than Embiid in almost every category on offense with better defense and a bigger load with no brook.

Agreed. Another 40 point game will get ESPN talking

I'm on NBA.com stat leaders...

#1 Embiid 29.7pts FG% 49.2 3p% 35.1 FT% 82 Rbs 11.2 Ast 4.3 stl 1.1 blk 1.4 TOV 2.9 EFF 33
#2 Giannis 29.7pts FG% 54.9 3p% 30.7 FT% 72.1 Rbs 11.5 Ast 6.0 Stl 1.1 blk 1.4 TOV 3.3 EFF 34.9

There numbers are almost exactly the same, Embiid is better at 3s and Fts. Giannis is way better at Assists and slightly better rebounder. Embiid less turnovers. Giannis better efficiency.

Not sure why embiid is listed #1, unless it's an alphabetical reason.

Ahm no, Giannis first name and last name are before Embiid's alphabetically.
They just think Embiid is better for some reason, maybe because the Sixers are higher in the standings.
Which is also false at the moment LOL

What they're really telling us is "Embiid is better because **** you, that's why"

Because Giannis has 29,660 points per game and Embiid has 29,730.

According to numbers and stats Giannis is ahead of Embiid:

I don't have a problem with any of them getting it. I just think they should name it offensive player of the year, since defense is half the game and they don't seem to take it into account.

Just wondering - has anyone ever averaged 30 points a game while playing only 33 minutes a game? Giannis is currently at 29.7 points a game (career high) and 32.8 minutes a game. Not that it really matters other than to emphasize how great an offensive player he is in addition to him being arguably the top defensive player in the game. But his absurdly great 4th quarter scoring stats already prove the point about his offense.

Sucks that Jokic is probably gonna block Giannis from MVP #3, but I can't say he doesn't deserve it. He's gonna break his own PER record (Jokic will too) and we'll all be wondering 20 years from now if this was a Top-5 greatest season to not win the award.

Embiid winning it would be a joke at this point though. He's having an amazing season in his own right (I'd stop just short of "historic" though), but it's clear by nearly every metric that he just isn't on either of those guys' level.

Definitely sucks for Giannis that Jokic is having one of the best seasons of all time, while Giannis is having the same, maybe only very very slightly less good. In a normal season, Giannis is the runaway favorite and wins his third MVP.

It’s amazing for basketball fans though.

Yea I have 1. Embiid 2. Jokic and a slight gap between them and Giannis at 3 but he still has a solid chance to snatch it if the bucks have a crazy run at the end.

It’s Joel’s to lose right now and deservedly so, he should be getting a lot more love for dpoy too. I wouldn’t be surprised if he got both.

It's pretty clear this is one of the all-time great MVP races in history. Comparable to 1962 and 1987. Each of those years you had perennial superstars having absolute monster seasons.

Gianni is third on many lists (on some he's even lower!) probably because of voter fatigue. This will be his FOURTH SEASON IN A ROW where he's averaging 25-10-5 or better. That's going to be an NBA record, as he's tied with Oscar for three seasons with those numbers.

Embiid is the shiny new toy who's having a historic season himself. And Jokic is putting up Wilt like numbers on insanely good efficiency with a depleted roster. Any one of the three are deserving. Normally take any one of their seasons in another year and they're the clear cut favorite. We just so happen to have a situation where three all-time talents are at their peak.

The REALLY difficult choice is going to be for All-NBA first team. Imagine a scenario where, let's say, Jokic wins the MVP but Embiid gets 1st team All-NBA for the C spot.

Read on Twitter

Do you guys think Giannis looks super exhausted? Because that's how Pablo described Giannis to Lowe. I'm very confused.

Lowe doesn't even push back! It was so weird.
