Jeter won 5 gold gloves despite being a putrid defensive player. Obviously Smart isn't a bad defender but he's highly overrated. His main skill is tricking the refs ffs

Be in a large market, make a few "flashy" plays and let the media do the rest.

Smart is a great all-around glue guy, but he is incredibly overrated as a defensive player.

Once you get in you stay in for a while. It's like winning a Gold Glove.

Sure, but then where's Rudy? Wolves have a top 10 defense and he's the only reason why.

Makes sense that they'd take previous trade proposals off the table -- especially anything that has to do with Russ -- and that San Antonio would want to stay competitive and avoid "looking even more dysfunctional than they already look" in this context.

Said an agent with multiple clients in the NBA: “If what we heard is true, [Wright] and everyone else involved should be fired."

For what it’s worth, the Spurs have gone on record to disagree with the “fact, details and timeline” presented at the press conference.

-Around the time that the Primo story broke, the Spurs alerted other teams that all trade proposals were off the table. As of Sunday night, that remains the case.

Why are the Spurs not currently engaged in any trade talk? The most logical answer is that the franchise is busy dealing with the Primo-related fallout.

However, it’s also possible that San Antonio’s better than expected start to the season has the Spurs reevaluating what they want to accomplish in the trade market. Heading into the campaign, the Spurs were projected to be one of the worst teams in the NBA. But instead of tanking to the bottom of the league, the team has been surprisingly competitive.

If Johnson and Vassell keep excelling and the Spurs continue to show the togetherness that has resulted in the team leading the league in assists per game, the franchise may opt to keep their squad together.

-Prior to ceasing all trade talk, the Spurs were clear in their demands. To trade Jakob Poeltl, they wanted two minimally-protected first round picks. For Josh Richardson, San Antonio was requesting one first round pick. The Spurs also wanted positive value back if they were to trade Doug McDermott.

According to a source, the Los Angeles Lakers have targeted Richardson and McDermott in a trade that would involve Russell Westbrook. However, talks haven’t gained traction because the Lakers are only willing to relinquish a pair of second round picks in return for both players.

Richardson (41.9%) and McDermott (43.1%) have been shooting extremely well from three-point range this season for the Spurs. Considering the Lakers are last in the league in three-point shooting at 28.4%, Los Angeles may eventually decide to increase their offer for San Antonio’s sharpshooting duo.

If this is true it goes to show you how much luck is involved in building NBA teams. The Spurs should be doing everything they can to tank for Wemby and yet a hot shooting start to the year has them now thinking they'd like to be a... play-in team?

Have to think this is just the Spurs indicating to the market they're not going to fire-sell their competent vets just because they've had a solid start to the season. Buford and co cannot be this daft.

Specifically for Rudy, I think: 1) you're right, 2) he's being marred by the current "bad" start Minny got off to, and 3) probably voter fatigue.

I remember one home game vs the Lakers in the mid Bogut era. Kobe came down and absolutely put his shoulder down in the paint and bulldozed Bogut on what was a clear and easy charge. Like, an egregious charge. Foul on Bogut. On the next possession, Kobe hit a jumper and it made the rounds on sportscenter the rest of the month.

McGlocklin absolutely lost his mind. "That was NOT A BLOCK!"

Giannis: “Nothing. Just get a ring now.”

I also lost my mind.

Other Jim/Jon memory, there was also a play I think Jason Terry was involved in, think he hit a three against us somewhere between 2006 and 2010 late game where John threw his headset and busted it. Jim was just trying to bridge the gap while McGlocklin could get back on air.

McGlocklin man that was legendary.

That's my youth right there. Jim and John. And Packers Jim and max.

Incredible amount of nostalgia and honestly it's literally perfect ending to both sets of guys. They put up with literally the worst franchises for most of their careers but walked off in the sunset part of championships. So rewarding.

If my memory is correct (almost certainly not) Kobe ran over Bogut while travelling and hit a game winner. Then maybe the next time we played the Lakers he makes a 4 step game winner over Luc and whoever it was that was running the POTG thread rage quit basketball for a while and I had to take it over. Maybe Serge?

I essentially remember this happening this way too.

Didn't McGlocklin also smash cups over because all the Bucks needed to do was box out Eddie Curry on a free throw to win the game and we didn't?

2005/2006 was a hell of an era for this place. So many of the joined dates here are from that period. Getting the #1 was so damn exciting.

If I was here in 2005 my teenage self would have flooded this board with Marvin Williams scouting notes and how taking Bogut #1 overall was a mistake. And don't even get me started on how jacked up I was for David Noel (I may have had a UNC thing at the time).

So I want to clarify that I also think you're right, i.e. he's included as the defending DPOY. And, probably, in 2 months if Boston has the 23rd defense, Smart will no longer be in the discussion. I just think it's ridiculous.

Ha, in the end the Nets don't hire Udoka. Vaughn is the permanent coach.
