Re: Head Coaching Candidates
He wouldn't be my first choice but Monty would certainly be better than any of the other dudes we've interviewed outside of Atkinson.

I think Bud took us as far as he could. There are a ton of teams that should want him and that doesn't mean it is wrong for us to make a move to someone different. I'm sure he will do well with another team, just don't think he is the right fit to get us back to another champ.

I would rather take a chance on someone like this if he nails the interview. I hope they are grilling these candidates on how they would use Giannis and how they would adjust to various scenarios in the playoffs. I get that we're on the clock with Giannis again and it's risky but I don't think they should be married to the idea of hiring someone "experienced". Most of the guys in that bucket are "experienced" in the way that they have experience failing a lot when it matters most. We just fired a great regular season W-L record coach, we're not going to do better there. I just feel like to get back where we want to be we need to take a shot at finding the next new thing rather than recycle someone like Monty Williams.

How, exactly, has this been "an absolute nightmare of a coaching search?" Like which guy did we miss out on that has you all hot and bothered? All that matters is the hire. And the team he/she puts into place. And even after that we won't know anything until we play actual basketball games. More specifically, postseason games. Really not understanding the panic here. Unless you wanted Udoka. And he was already off the board before the Budenholzer firing.
The guy we've "missed out on" is clearly Nurse. Best coach available and not a peep of interest one way or another. Pretty clear from that silence that he is not being considered. That said, the Quinn news is encouraging because taking a chance on him (or Atkinson) would be about the best that we could do with the list of candidates that have been made available.

Re: Head Coaching Candidates
Monty is one of the worst candidates we could hire. He runs a very stale, rigid system that also got exposed numerous times in the playoffs the last three seasons. Even Bud outcoached him. It would be ridiculous to fire Bud and hire literally the only coach that Bud could outsmart on the way to a title.

I think Shams is doing more speculating than reporting with regards to Monty.

I love Bud but when you have the best player in the world, it is a high bar and he knows that.

Remember when the Suns were down like 50 points in freaking game 7 against Luka and the misfit toys last year? What the hell is this team doing…

I mean he specifically says that Monty is at or near the top of the Bucks list. That doesn't feel like something he'd just throw out there

Re: Head Coaching Candidates
Knowing nothing of specifics on most assistant coaches I'd probably be most willing to take a chance on someone from the Miami circle than anyone else at this point. I wouldn't oppose that dude if they go with it.

Sounded like speculation to me.

It's an unreasonably high bar. PP originally brought this up and I went and fact checked it, no team had won multiple titles with a core of players that didn't include at least 2 HOFs. Bud was given 1 HOF guy. Bud got fired for not being able to complete a truly historic feat

Nurse
Quinn
Atkinson
Lue
Monty
Borrego
Griffin
Brooks
MJackson
I’m good I suppose with the first 3 guys. Would be disappointed with any of the others here. None feel like they’ll be the panacea regardless.

So is this why a lot of people think Monty is an incompetent buffoon? Because a good coach bested him in the Finals? Some of you guys must think every coach outside of the Top 2-3 guys in the league is a complete moron.

At this point I’m 100% on Quinn mainly because our other options are absurdly bad. I’d rather take a chance on an unknown from the Miami brain trust.

Re: Head Coaching Candidates
Of the names that have been reported so far, I'd probably put them in tiers like this:
Intrigued but not thrilled: James Borrego, Chris Quinn, Kenny Atkinson
Okay, I guess: Adrian Griffin, Charles Lee, Monty Williams
Absolutely not: Mark Jackson, Scott Brooks
Am I missing anyone?
