I will be impressed if the tournament idea ever surpasses it's current status as pointless gimmick.

I think an in-season tournament can be fun but I'm unsure of the best way to do it. Haven't really heard an idea that blows me away.

Re: ATL -Fizdale Fizzles Out in NY
Philly is going to have the exact same problems they had in the playoffs last year except they won’t have the Jimmy B escape valve this time. They just have not changed as a team at all.
Famous last words possibly but I’d be far more concerned about the Celtics, Raps and even Heat above them. Short of Embiid somehow becoming prime Shaq to cover their deficiencies there are too many square pegs on that team.

Dallas might be scary come playoff time. These dudes can all play, they're a killer road team and most importantly KP looks a lot better

There needs to be more talk about them as a legitimate threat to win the west. They're a match up nightmare for the Lakers too.

Midseason tournaments have been in college basketball for as long as I can remember and not a single person gives a **** about them. Do you know who won the Maui Invitational this year? No, because it’s a pointless tournament that nobody gives a **** about

I feel like Embiids best seasons are behind him already.

Silver points to Europe for mid season tournaments for success. The top clubs barely want anything to do with them outside of the champions league.
For example. Liverpool wanted out of their league cup quarter final so badly that they basically played their U17 team against Aston Villa.
Why?
Because it means nothing to big clubs and they want their players healthy and rested for their league and the champions league.

Give the winners of the tourney that many extra wins on their season total. That'd make it worth watching.
Winners should get a playoff spot for sure, just not sure how high a seed it should be. I still think I like the idea of a sliding scale depending on regular season finish.

statistically last year was his best year, but it's not like he's dropped off a cliff.

I don't know why college basketball exists in the first place so I can't really comment, but in professional sports cups and tournaments have been very successful since forever basically. It's not like the Commisar came up with some original idea.
Just another thing that will come from Europe, like skinny jeans and cappucinos

Re: ATL -Fizdale Fizzles Out in NY
Sixers look pretty underwhelming, not sure why everybody keeps saying they are best or second best team in the East.
Looks like people rank teams based on their best player only, ie Giannis is the best therefore let me rank the Bucks #1 in the East. Second best hmmmm probably Embiid, therefore Sixers #2. Then maybe Siakam so Toronto #3 and so on. This works really well in tennis and golf, not so much in basketball.

If you're from the soccer world, in season 1 game elim tournaments came be fun as hell. I think one of the best ideas I've heard is Bill Simmons' where they add wins to the teams reg season total, which would greatly affect seeding and give a clearer motivation to the players than just money.

SO. What happens first? Simmons traded, Brown fired, or both on the same day? My personal hot take is that they are doing Simmons and themselves a huge disservice playing him at PG and living with a skill deficit every minute he's on the court by choosing size over skill. Embiid and Simmons should be the bigs.
Play him as a big, get a super skilled PG, must be able to shoot the **** out of the ball, and Philly is right there. If I was the GM? Do whatever I can to move Horford and Tobias for the most skilled perimeter players I can find. Those contracts, given how the players fit with Embiid and Simmons, are catastrophic, but the players themselves are obviously not bad. A couple good trades and Philly is fully in the mix. One thing they have working for them is that Brand is not afraid to make them. Working against them is it's very unclear if he knows what he's doing.

Re: ATL -Fizdale Fizzles Out in NY
I think a December tournament could be fun, I don't think most teams would care a ton about it, but most teams don't care about a regular season December game anyway. Someone brought up the Maui Invitational, and no I can't name who won it, but I find those games alot more fun than a random non conference game. I also think young teams(think 2015-2017 Bucks) would try for it and that could make for some fun runs by teams
Coach Drew: "Milwaukee has always been a team that I have been intrigued by. When we played them, they were a tough team for us to play. Although we did beat them all four times"

Feel like the Sixers are really easy to overreact to when the lose.

If they pushed the pace like we do, that would go a long way. They've got plenty of good players. I don't think trading Tobias makes them better (contract takes a lot of value away).
