Unfortunately with how old this house is and the way these row houses were constructed, it's impossible to feed a cable up the wall to connect my PC and PS5 directly to the router in our living room. I got one of those powerline connection things instead so that I can at least have a stable connection. It's a bummer that I pay for 1 gig internet speeds but only get around 70 Mbps on my PC and PS5 though but that's still more than enough for my online gaming.

We're considering building a 3rd floor/roof deck on this house though so if that ends up happening, I'm probably going to try to see if they can do something to allow us to move the router so that I can finally connect it directly.

Might be worth checking out MoCA, if you haven't already. This was our backup solution had the updated modem/mesh system combo not worked.

If I'm understanding it correctly, I unfortunately don't have a coax upstairs either so it would be the same issue for me (unless I'm misunderstanding the technology in that article).

You understood correctly. It essentially lets you use coax hookups you'd use for cable TV to transmit internet up to ~1G.

Good luck with the wifi!

Yeah, thanks anyways! Honestly, this setup has been fine for online gaming; I never have issues with it; 70 Mbps is fine enough and it's at least a stable 70. It's downloading new games/patches that annoys me sometimes.

Took almost three hours to get all fixed up, but the tech was real nice. My line to the service box was ancient and dead. They have one just lying above ground for now but they’ll bury it in the next week or so. The feed in my basement was a mess of splitters, so it took a while for him to sort it. I need to pull a bunch of random DirectTV junk out to clean it up.

On another note, the Orbi setup is fantastic. Getting full throughput on all levels and to my lot line with only two units. Freaking awesome.

I appreciate your appreciation. A small community still exists online. They had the 20something year anniversary of the MWC, Myth World Cup. Free downloads exist somewhere. Have to login through steam now.

To your point, some Myth fans began a game called Deadhold on steam. Might be free. I haven't tried it since early stage but might be good. Definitely inspired by Myth.

The gameplay is still supreme RTS imo. Myth IV is so needed, but would destroy my life. Myth III was an unfortunate bust made by a random ass company holding franchise rights hostage. **** Take 2.

I’d have to really dig to see if I have the files somewhere or even a disc. Was just so unique as sort of a real time tactics game. I do not like making buildings in stuff like Starcraft or Company of Heroes, maybe Dawn of War II is the closest thing to it in the past 13 years? Anyway, I loved it, it’s probably in my pantheon of greats.

Deadhold looks…dead. Not for sale on Steam anymore but the page still exists; seems like they halted production and shut the servers down. Sad because I could totally go for modern Myth II. Wonder what the status of the IP is now…
Gateofstorms dot com will guide you to the current Myth II community. Have to sign in through steam. Their discord offers a link to a free download and most people are stoked to help "new" players get on the server. The online game was a whole other level of incredible. You could also play the campaign coop. Tons of player created maps. Had the most amazing Free For All and 2-Team strategic battles of all games all time, but I'm quite partial to that opinion lol.

Was just going to ask the same thing, LOL. I've never really played an MMO before but thought I might pre-order to gain access to the beta and try with this one. Only concern is that MMO veterans are railing on Amazon because they've already mentioned having a cash shop that could include XP boosts.

Thoughts?
I plan on it. We should all guild up or something. :)

I love MMOs but haven't been able to get into one since early ESO days before PvP became so rigid and programmed.

Currently trying out BDO, black desert online, but only level 16 and not much interest in continuing. Gave Blessed Unleashed a chance a few months back. I dunno, maybe it's just because my friends don't play MMOs anymore.

I miss the days of Ultima Online and Shadowbane.

I played UO:R for like 3 years. I wish that client was still playable. I loved that game so, so much.

An old friend from college has 18,000 hrs on BDO. I’m baffled and confused and concerned.

Anyone play Guilty Gear Strive? One of my buddies got interested and picked it up on PC and is thinking about setting if the rest of the group would want in as a game we play.

If you like fighting games and you want to play online this is the one to get. It feels like you’re playing locally the net code is really that good.

Love the idea and cool to see this coming to life now. Probably not for me, as even with the Switch I don't exactly use it as an out-and-about, portable system - it's moreso on the couch/in bed/around house somewhere or in the dock. And with Steam, I can pretty easily just play on my laptop when doing that.

It's great to have this in the market, though. I hope it does well.

I was laughing that I had this idea a decade ago but we’re only seeing it now. I don’t know that I need it, but it’s neat. Would’ve been awesome in college when I’d frequently visit my parents. Might not need this now when I can just sit at my desk in my office.

I look at that and my first thought was hey as a Mac guy I can finally play some PC games I've long missed. And like a minute later I thought, wait, couldn't I do that with GeForce Now?

Has anyone used the service? I see they have Valheim. A quick search an a Reddit result came up saying they were playing max setting PC games on a 2011 iMac. Why haven't I been doing this before? I've also got an Nvidia Shield TV that's collected dust since about the moment I bought it that seems like it could run it.

I got distracted playing D3 this week because I needed an ARPG fix. Haven't been playing one recently (which is like, I dunno, just a month or two for me) and the new POE league was announced this week. I'm really cold on the changes, honestly, and think they're losing me a bit. Which is sad. But anyway, it was enough to get me wanting to play something. D3 lasted me...about a week. I was reminded of how polished it was, which feels great, but also reminded how shallow it is. I just can't get excited for paragon and rift grind. It's just the same exact thing over and over again.

Back to Fell Seal this week, I think.

I was reading some interesting article a week ago or so that PoE is bleeding players right now. There’s always a big drop off a few weeks after a new league drops, but it’s been real drastic with the last one or two. I think they usually hover around at least 10,000 concurrent users on Steam and it’s plunged way below that to like the ~5,000 range. Not a consistent, long time player, but it seems like maybe it needs a little shake up and QoL changes.

I didn't know it was quite that bad, but I'm not surprised if so. There are a number of problems right now. I think much of it centers around how it more and more feels like a F2P game - which it of course is - but it truly didn't feel much like one until recently. But the way they have handled leagues and not fixed or addressed almost innumerable QOL issues at this point leads to it feeling more and more bloated, tedious, and like they just want you to have to hang around in hopes that you buy something. It's still not P2W - though stash tabs are maybe a gray area - but I think their model and thought process is "if they stick around they'll buy more points."

I know I personally am more likely to stick around and support the game with cash when playing doesn't feel like a chore. How novel, right? But maybe they don't see it that way in the cash flow, unfortunately. I've probably spent north of $300 over the years in supporter packs (armor sets, points for more MTX from the store), and I was happy to do so because I wanted to support the devs. For how much I've played it's really a modest amount of money, honestly. But I don't think I've bought anything in over a year now and I have no plans to until they really fix things. I'm just not sure that'll ever happen.

Everything changed when Tencent bought the studio. It took time, but I think it's pretty clearly shown their influence. I'm eager for competitors, both to hopefully push them and also to have something else to play. Last Epoch is super promising and already good, and can't wait for D2R.

I preordered the 512gb Steam Deck. I probably shouldn't be in charge of my finances.
