OT:Bill Michaels out at WTMJ (replaced by Trenni and Matzek)

Interesting.

Trenni is sort of scatterbrained, but I think Greg Matzek might keep her in line.

Haven't really heard a lot of Matzek but he seemed alright. I don't mind Trenni, she's pretty good when she's a guest on the D-List. They'll be way better than Michaels though who spent a grand total of about 10 minutes of his 2 hour show actually talking about sports.

This comment made me lawl.

If Trenni does more than 3 minutes of show prep a day, she'll be doing more than the Big Unit.

It's funny because it's true.

Do you really think she adds anything to the D-List?

I listen to the D-List a lot and thought she added nothing to the show at all. Trenni would pretty much just state very obvious type of stuff without any real research or analysis involved.

Say she'll be talking about the Brewers, expect to hear lots of batting average for hitters and wins for pitchers being key stats to her. The Bucks stink because of injuries and guys not being on "the same page."

None of these local hosts are able to run a tight, well prepared show. That's why they all work here and not in a bigger market. And it also explains why their ratings generally suck across the board.

Peter Brown was a loudmouth and I understand how people didn't like him. But he was able to run a professional show that had tempo and focus. If we ever got a smart person in this market who could do the same, I think they'd hit it big on ratings.

Homer was like that 5 years ago back on WISN, but since leaving there, he's sort of a 3-4 hour long rambling mess now on WAUK.

Hey, she's an upgrade over Michaels if she even talks about sports. I don't expect radio hosts to be in depth in stats. Would it be nice? Sure, but it isn't going to happen.

So it comes down to being entertaining. As long as Trenni and Greg talk about something more interesting than fixing their sump pump (yes, Bill actually did talk about that once) they'll be an upgrade over what they replaced.

Cool. Greg was a senior when I was a freshman at Brookfield Central.

Didn't know him that well at all, but got to know him a little through the basketball team and he was one of our anchors for our 5 minute morning news program (I helped run our local cable access TV station, among other things). Very nice guy.

That's two of my former anchors that went on to have prominent local media gigs (Heather Shannon being the other one). I can't take any credit for Greg, but it was definitely my suggestion to put Heather in front of the camera ;)

Yeah, WTMJ has some nice ladies to look at. Heather Shannon, Lauren Lehoweverthehellyouspellit, Diane Pathieu.

And of course Vince Vitrano's mom taught at the middle school I went to.

I like Trenni, I just don't think she's going to cut it as a radio show host. But who knows?

Michaels was never my favorite guy, but I also think he got way to much hate. I would have rather listened to Unit than some of the jokers on 540 or 1250.

Obviously when it comes to any talk show host be it sports or political talk, it simply comes down to personal preference to each individual listener.

Why like the D-List and Homer is at least those guys are willing to go beyond the obvious and superficial stuff when talking about the local teams.

If say Drew Olsen or Homer are talking about the Brewers, they are open to and understand how more advanced statistical analysis is more telling than the old time stats of just batting average, RBI's, and wins for pitchers. They can grasp why a hitter with 16 homers and 75 RBI's, but a sub-.300 OBP hurts a lineup. Why a pitcher with a 11-11 record, but a 2.89 ERA is pitching fabulously, regardless of the .500 record.

Same with other sports for the most part. I respect that they have a strong knowledge about those other sports, above just the obvious or spewing cliches. There also isn't silly bickering simply just to bicker.

Buy hey, that's just my preference.

Jesus Christmas...Trenni is going to be on the radio even more!!! Even more reason to get Sirius Radio, since Milwaukee radio just steadily declines!

I'm in the same boat as Dude...I do like listening to the D-List and Homer when I have a chance. But I will say that Mitch Nellus can be really...really...REALLY annoying.

I forgot to add one story since you brought up Peter Brown.

So one day he was talking about baseball and Brown was rambling on about how overrated Ben Sheets was even though Ben that year had 2.70 ERA and .98 WHIP over 237 innings, but his record was 12-14 because he got miserable run support. Brown was saying that no starting pitcher with a sub-.500 record could have a great year.

That made me call in which i rarely ever do and i brought up multiple pitchers who had a better record than Ben, but all had a significantly worse ERA, but a few were at the top in runs support which greatly inflated their records. So Brown proceeded to get all flustered and talk himself in circles as it became obvious that his position was really moronic, but of course he refused to just give in and admit he was wrong. His next tactic became yelling loud and trying to cut me off as each time i again provided examples he couldn't defend without looking stupid. When he got even more flustered then and started stammering to go with his yelling, i couldn't help but begin laughing at him. This got him absolutely irate and thus he finally hung up on me. Of course then once i wasn't there anymore to make him defend his moronic position, he proceeded to ramble on for another minute or two telling the audience how stupid i was. :D

That's why I don't call in to radio shows...the hosts have way too much power to cut you off if you disagree with them.

Matzek has been around awhile, working his way up. He was a producer and now does some sports spots. He was on ESPN's old "Beg, Borrow or Steal" show many years ago. He seems decent, I don't know how he'll be when given more air time. Trenni belongs on TV not radio. No loss losing Michaels.

Matzek isn't totally inexperienced. He co-hosted the weekend show with Falconio.
