OT - Black Friday/Cyber Monday Thread

Thought I would get one of these going so people can discuss their plans for these days and sales they have caught wind of.

Specifically, I am purchasing a new laptop this year and was wondering if any of the techies on here could recommend some high quality / low-ish priced ones out there. I think I remember chuckles talking about BF/CM computer sales last year, but I could be mistaken.

Any advice/recommendations/info for me regarding buying a laptop would be much appreciated.

So yeah, discuss.

I wouldn't go shopping the day after Thanksgiving if everything was being given away.

Same. I tried it once... will never even consider doing it again.

Most of the 'deals' are scams anyways. "OMG GET AN iPad for $150!!!!!" then you go and they sell like five iPads at that price to people and everyone else pays the regular cost.

It's more of a Black Thursday now. Stores opening at like 9PM on Thanksgiving.

Cyber Monday is pretty legit. Black Friday, not so much.

The parking and crowds alone puts me into an ADD-driven fit of rage. In college I worked at Best Buy, that experience alone made me realize I would never voluntarily ever shop on Black Friday.

I'm going on my fiancee's families phone plan with US Cellular. So I'm hoping they have some good deal on the Galaxy s3. Also might look for deals on some household items

I worked at Home Depot in college and it was terrible. Now wouldn't be so bad as no one is buying home improvement or construction materials.

This is how I feel on the subject.

Some of the stories I read are insane. People are absolute lunatics on this day. No thanks.

Yeah I don't get into it either. Too many insane people that would just p*ss me off. It would have to be a really awesome deal on something I really want to lure me in, even that might not be enough.

Yeah, I'm getting the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 when my plan is up. Every review I've read on it is incredible.

I've only bought something on BF once, but it wasn't because it was on-sale or whatever. I just really wanted Assassin's Creed 2 and it wasn't available for rent.

I stopped by a Shop Ko on my way home from Thanksgiving and the lines were insane, spreading the length of the store (for **** at SHOP KO. I don't get people). Anyway, I go to Electronics, get the clerk or whatever to unlock the game for me, ask if he can check me out, says sure and I was done. In and out of the store in literally five minutes. Walked right past what must have been 100+ people in line. It was glorious.

Seen this today and wasn't sure if it was legit. Wondering if the S2 for $99.99 is supposed to be the S3 because the S2 is already 49.99 online

I hate shopping. Do all of it online. Something not fitting right is a risk I'm willing to take. Hate malls. Hate traffic. Hate lines. Hate waiting.

I dont really have anything in mind. I'll probably head over to Walmart Thursday night or mid day Friday and pick up NBA 2K13 for $25.

Ill probably look for some online deals though.

Worst thing I ever saw on Black Friday occurred at Target. My senior year in high school 1995, I pulled electronics duty and one of the Black Friday items was some absolutely garbage GPX mini cd player radio, I would hesitate to call it a shelf system but in that same vein. It was like $19 or something like that in the ad.
We only had a few, apparently the last one was up about 15 feet or so along the back wall, a nice little old lady asked me to come get it for her. I grabbed the rolling stairs and went to get it. As I approached I could see one 40ish guy climbing the rack in that area, as I climbed the stairs he's eyeballing me, I grabbed the cd player and he tries to rip it out of my hands, and of course I told him the lady did things the right way she asked for it first so she gets it. He and a bunch of the people with him start going nuts trying to grab it from the old lady. I stepped in between them and he literally swung at me. I called for security on the radio and two other customers trying to be good Samaritans come to help me which escalated it further and an all out brawl ensues. The only positive was after a morning of wanting to hit most of the people I was dealing with I actually could. But all of that Over a $19 crappy brand CD player. The guy was arrested, I didn't particularly care for managements attitude toward what had happened especially after watching the video, so I quit about 5 minutes after the police left. Never will I ever think about shopping on Black Friday though I think it was much worse back then.

I do 90% of my shopping online too. Every year there are more and more deals.
