Mentioned having a young coach and young players could be an option, but at the end of the day they serve two masters and the mandate is fielding the best possible team and making the playoffs.

This is clearly a Kohl issue.

I just can't respect the guy. Look, he might be incredibly smart and know exactly how to build in the NBA (I honestly don't know how he couldn't).

But if he can't stand up to Kohl and let him know that his "mandate" is costing the team a chance at relevancy, then just step down.

I'm in the same boat. Yesterday when he said they've reached their goal of being a "playoff contender" each year, that was too much. Good to know you and the Senator have advanced the ball far enough so that in year six of your tenure we can "contend" to make the playoffs each year.

Homer really ripped them yesterday. Said this years team went backwards and would have not made the playoffs if not for Bynum's injury. And said in the process we gave away a good young asset in Tobias.

Yup, just listened. First off, didn't Hammond say when he first got here that building a team from the ground up, even if it meant a few bad years, was the way we needed to go, and he accepted the job based on Kohl understanding that? Or am I dreaming? Obviously FTD year f'd that all up immediately.

Second, way to completely suck the corporate teat and dodge any meaningful questions, Bill. His sidekick was the only one that asked the meaningful question about building young. How about:
- Do you regret the Tobias Harris trade? WIth a followup of "You were an 8th seed when you moved him by a healthy margin and an 8th seed at the end of the year"... to start?! Cripes.

Ted Davis called this the most important off season in the Bucks 45 year history.

Having said that, it terrifies me that we have Hammond at the helm to see this off-season thru.

I have no faith in him effectively managing the cap and handing out the right deals to the right players. He could screw this franchise for the next decade by the moves made this summer.

yeah those questions were absolute tee-balls. 'are there any difference-makers in the draft?' yeah, at 15 there are a handful of stars we're considering.

the only interesting part of the interview was the 'look, nothing has changed since the day i got here---the goal is to be a playoff team' comment. i'm paraphrasing of course, but that is basically what he said. there was a bit of snark in his tone, and it was pretty clear he was saying what we all know---the senator won't allow anything else.

i'm probably in the minority, but i think maybe he set this whole offseason on self-destruct with forced moves. all the guards walk, josh smith and whoever won't come no matter the money (he did say about the cap, we're going to spend wisely---we'll see if that holds true), he can throw his hands up to kohl and say 'see? there's nothing we can do. we'd better start over.' true or untrue, that's my only hope at this point. hammond stealth tank ftw.

Exactly. And I would think the answer to both of those questions are no from his perspective (or most GM's in the league's perspective).

then why did Hammond sign the extension? the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

I've said this before but Hammond is doing exactly as I would if I had Kohl as my boss.

If my boss says win now at all costs, I'm doing it. Handing out big contracts to vets and trading my young assets for proven players.

If Hammond can assure himself job security if he just makes the playoffs in a weak Eastern Conference, he'll do these types of moves all day.

Is this smart or will it win a championship? Hell no, but he's making an awfully good living doing it.

Fact of the matter is, whatever the mandate is from the top, this guy could be doing a better job of it. Probably should be doing a better job since they are in the east, half dozen teams are tanking, and our going for it moves like Redick trade didn't produce any tangible results in the only column that matters.

I do think it's easy for fans to say you should step down from your multi-million dollar job because it's the 'right thing to do'. I'd be Kohls puppet for Hammond's salary too, someones gotta do the job and realistically, Kohl isn't changing his mind.
