Funny, I used to play three of these songs in my cover band. There were a few people who really loved that we did them, but ultimately they were dropped because most people didn't know who the hell they were.

The new Taylor Swift album is like an album by Bon Iver and The National featuring Taylor Swift.

It's pretty good and an album to throw on when you want to relax. I had to turn it off since it was lulling me to sleep.

That is all.

Actually I lied - that is not all. With my new car, I got a trial subscription to XM back, and holy **** I am realizing just how much I have missed it. I've been in a music funk for the past year. For a while post-subscription, I was doing a really good job keeping up on finding new music, but I fell out of that habit. Listening to XMU (trial comes with online subscription too, so stream from my office), I've been Shazamming a new song about once an hour to add to a playlist. I think I'm going to re-sub for their online-only service.

I'm not sure I could name my favourite Mountain Goats song, but this one would be right up there (but that list of "there" might be 20 songs). Whilst painting imagery that tells a different/unique story, Darnielle really delivers a song writer- this song speaks to me on the apprehension/fear/excitement/optimism of love and parenthood.

I just stumbled upon this version of it. I love it.

It's ridiculously unfair how Lana was treated her first year or so. "Born to Die" is a modern classic.

(having a Lana playlist night)

The best Mountain Goats song is "Best Ever Death Metal Band In Denton."

God, he's a monster with the pen.

Any Secret Machine fans on the board? First new album in like 14 years. So far vintage sound and solid lyrics. I think I need a few listens before I give my full review but the fact that I like it at first blush but need more listens typically means there something interesting there (for me). 10/10 on the nostalgia scale.

I had never heard of them, did some googling and they came up with associated acts of bands that I do dig (like Interpol). What's your favourite album/best recommendation for me to start listening with in their catalogue?

Such a great song, love the build of youthful rebellion up to the hail satans to finish. :)

When you punish a person for dreaming his dream,
Don't expect him to thank or forgive you

Wonderful.

If you haven't read them and you're in to literature check out his novels, very well written and interesting.

They are most certainly in the same 'class' as Interpol but not as new wavy sounding. More straight forward rock - guitars and drums. Lots of drums. Frankly they don't have much, but I would start with 'Now Here is Nowhere'.
