This one is pretty good. Not as good as "Bury Us" but might grow on me. The message in the lyrics is good. You can definitely tell in the music that they ditched the rest of the band and the actual instruments are kinda gone.

Start on acoustic and get one that's set up properly. When I started learning I used a cheap guitar with high action due to an extremely tall nut. It absolutely killed my joy until I realized that it shouldn't be like that.

i think im going to go see the mattson 2 tonight. i dont know, gotta convince the gf. we have to go to milwaukee for her dad's birthday and im looking for a reason to cut out of that at a reasonable time.

Not trying to deal with a guitar with awful action is a good tip. Also look at starting off with lighter gauge strings, any half decent guitar shop will be able to give you guidance (or just google), similar logic of just making it initially easy to play and less of a chore. It will sound less robust, but will give you time to get used to the feel (and build up some callouses on your finger tips- don't pick those off when they come!). To start out you might also want to consider a capo on the first or second fret for a while, it will lighten the tension on the strings as well.
The key to learning guitar is regularity- someone who has been practicing for 30 minutes 3 times a week for a year will likely be a better player than someone who has been practicing for 30 minutes once a fortnight for a decade.
Start off with simple, basic, open chords- just get the feel, then find a song that works on those chords you've learnt (songsterr is a good source, but I'm sure you can google a bunch of things). Repetition is key with learning a song, try just learning parts of the song and repeating those instead of looping through the entire song- so if the first 16 bars have a couple of chord changes, just play those over and over then move on to the next part. It helps build confidence, you'll feel better (and learn quicker) if you can play the first half of a song really well than if you can play a whole song not that well.

Anyone been listening to a lot less music over the last couple years? I was startled when my Spotify year in review came out and my music listening took a tumble for the first time in a decade and it'll probably go down again this year. If I'm in a spot where I'm listening to something streaming it's almost always podcasts until I've exhausted my interesting options. There's 2.5 hours of the LeBatard radio show every day, another 50 minutes if I do the Lour. I usually wake up to Mina Kimes ESPN Daily. Often times I listen to Highly Questionable and High Noon. Occasionally the Lowe Post. Some South Beach Sessions and Mystery Crate. Usually Kotaku Splitscreen. Listening to a ton of the Rewatchables. The Filmdrunk Frotcast when they have a free ep. I could probably lose three months in The West Wing Weekly.

Yep, but for me it's because I no longer have a commute. I listen to music (and podcasts) a lot when I travel still, but it's usually things I know because I have a playlist saved to my phone - no wifi (plane) or bad data access in general (**** Georgia). In my day-to-day work, music is just distracting or I'm in calls all day, so I don't have time.
I don't want it to be that way. It just is.

I'm still kinda big on both but probably just given my age, music is changing a bit.
I listen to a decent amount of podcasts on my commute and at work a bit. Pardon My Take, Doughboys, I still listen to the Cracked podcast, though that is not going to be as exciting without Jason Pargin...some other random sports ones and fantasy when that season is in play.
But at work I still have music on in the background a lot. I think I'm getting into less bands these days other than my heyday of 2004-2012 or so when I was in my late teens/20s and the whole indie boom was happening.
However, I have eclectic enough taste and even am into pop-type **** that I think part of the issue is overload. There is probably more good/listenable stuff being thrown at me than ever before but I'm probably like, "ugh, out of these 10 new artists I heard today there isn't even a freaking Arcade Fire or Radiohead caliber one in the group. Booooriiiiiiing."

Dylan released a nearly 17 minute song about the Kennedy assassination. Not sure I think it's a GOOD song, but I appreciate him releasing it when people probably have the time you sit and listen to it all.
