Jesus Philliy isnt this stupid. Are they?

Okafor or Noel, Covington. Their SActo pick and their LAL pick for Paul George.

The whole resting players topic that seems to be all over the media right now is such a dumb debate. Even if you think it's so bad for the game it's nearly impossible to legislate. Teams would simply list some nagging injury, sure you could have an independent doctor check the guys out but that's really opening up a can of worms. Plus even if you "made" them play what's to prevent a coach from starting a guy and then only playing them like 5 minutes? Will the league start telling a coach how he needs to divvy up playing time? Just a path that's way more trouble than it's worth.

If they want to have less teams rest guys how about cutting the schedule down to like 70 games. By doing that they would eliminate almost all back to backs and make the schedule mush less taxing on the players. Plus with less overall games each game would be that much more important to the final standings.

What's odd about the debate is it's the players who need and advocate the rest and act like it's the league forcing this demanding schedule on them. But if they proposed a 15% reduction in games along with the correlated 15% reduction in pay, they'd all say no.

Just don't get why people think PG is that good. If I were the Pacers I would of jumped on that rebuild with no hesitation.

The thing is I don't believe it would be a direct correlation in % of games reduced to % of lost revenue and the salary cap is set on revenue. The major money coming in to the league is the big national TV deals and even if you cut back to 70 games they could still fill the national schedule just fine and the playoffs would remain unchanged. The only loss in revenues would be the ticket sales for the lost home games and probably some money from the local TV deals. But those two things aren't as big of the piece of revenue pie as they used to be.

True, so a 7-10% cut in pay or whatever it would be. Point is, players wouldn't accept the less pay or at least nothing drastic. Obviously we couldn't know the math on how much it would correlate down. But hmaybe something smaller could be done, maybe 6 games less.

2 vs opposing conference: 30 games. 4 vs division: 16 games. 3 vs other conference teams: 30 games. That's 76 and onlly 7.6% reduction, with the non 1:1 correlation maybe they only need 2-3% reduction. Could work.

but my guess is they tack on a week at the beginning of the season and stick to 82 games since players won't take less money. We all know preseason could be reduced easily. However, I also think teams will still rest players even if they add a week. They'll basically be up to 2-3 weeks extra rest time compared to a few years ago. It still won't matter because the bigger problem is the games don't really matter to these teams. So any slight advantage gained from resting outweighs the value of playing. Reducing the games by a few would at least slightly put more value on reg season games.

If they think they can resign George that would be a bargain. That LAL pick might not convey this year and who knows where it falls next year.

Two lotto picks. Possibly very early lotto picks. A choice of a center and a very good all around wing for someone who has a chance of leaving whether they think they can sign him or not plays no part into what PG has publicly stated. IM shocked that Indy turned this down. Re-reading the article the picks would have been either Philly's or Sacto's this year (there is a swap condition) and the Lakers pick (top3 pro, then un-por in 18). Honestly WTF are they doing there in Philly.

Think as we learned at the deadline, Noel and Okafor had very minimal value. And at the time that deal was proposed, it wasn' t quite as certain where the Kings pick/Sixers pick/Lakers pick would fall. And for all we know the 76'ers might have put top three or top two protection on any of those picks.

The whole bit about what was actually offered for George and Jimmy Butler at the deadline is an open question.

I'm surprised Indiana turned that down cause I'm pretty sure George will walk, but again if Philly was confident that they could resign George that would be a good deal for them. If not, of course this deal would be horrible for Philly.

Outside of when we have played them I've seen him in action a couple times and good god he is twice as bad as with us. We know he's a confidence player but man is he shot.
