You can think they're the same offensively but you'd be wrong. Hayward has better ball skills, better vision, better mechanical passing ability. He's also a more savvy player and more creative in addition to being a clearly superior athlete. Similar level players, but Hayward is pretty clearly ahead even without the Middleton injury.
The defense thing is closer, but I don't know how you can realistically make an argument for one or the other at this point. Both solid but unspectacular.
FWIW, I expect this to be Hayward in a landslide by the end of the year even accounting for a nice bounce back season from Khris. Stevens is going to open people's eyes to how good Hayward is with how he uses him.
