BR Article: NBA Re-draft Bucks have 4 players drafted

Post#1 » by HKPackFan » Thu Aug 17, 2017 4:58 am

This was a fun article to review.

For the summary (Bucks perspective)

Giannis taken 6th overall Kings
Middleton 40th overall Bucks
Jabari 46th overall Nuggets
The Prez 96th overall in the 4th round. Grizzlies

Felt pretty good we had 4 players drafted and 3 in the top 50th. Middleton going 40th even in a down year after injury is nice, he probably goes higher if he gains his old self. Jabari going a few after was a surprise, but I guess his potential is too much to pass up.

Link is too long to post here, but they randomize the draft for teams, then each team puts together a 5 man roster in a 5 round draft for the upcoming season.

Still doesn't make any sense, even when they explain it:

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2724422-brs-2017-nba-re-draft-whos-going-1st-if-league-started-from-scratch

The Los Angeles Lakers fell victim to the dreaded auto-draft. They were ready to take the best player available, per EWA, but then something strange happened.

Our inner LaVar Ball kicked in, and we as commissioners couldn't resist.

Lonzo Ball is officially a Laker, and quite frankly, we weren't sure he'd be around for L.A.'s next pick. The next Magic Johnson? Probably not. The next great Laker? Quite possibly...and that's something we couldn't deny NBA fans—even in this fantasy draft.

You'll hear from the official Lakers GM later on, and you'll see how he plans on building around his new franchise cornerstone. Until then, direct your thoughts toward the commissioners of this league.

Lonzo = L.A.

The Player Who Made Us Sweat: DeMar DeRozan was the default pick, and not a bad one considering his scoring habits and L.A. ties. But...Lonzo...

—B/R Re-Draft Commissioners

They did it for fun, because the guy running the Lakers was on auto-pick. :nonono:

Jabari at 46 is a surprise. I don't think he was a top 50 player before he did his second acl. If this draft was for real id suspect he'd probably be a high upside pick around the 100 mark maybe even lower.

I guess it would give me the chance to test the theory that id love Draymond if he was on my team. Cause i despise him.

The concept is very cool as you are drafting only for this season, so youth and upside, etc. supposedly aren't factored in. But that's where the derp factor comes in with Jabari going so high. He's not going to play much this season.

But this ranking also goes to my point that maybe he's got trade value to a sucker team since someone in this draft wanted him. (This is confirmed by yesterday's Simmons podcast where Simmons and KOC are slobbering all over Jabari's "potential".)

Also you missed that they drafted Greg Monroe at #67.

ETA: I see a disclaimer in there noting that drafters should assume "all current injuries are healed".

Wow. I totally forgot about Monroe. I didn't even bother to look for him. I guess I see him as a backup center didn't think he'd go as a starter.

Weird he's so difficult to trade if someone is ready to grab him at #67. But then again this fantasy draft doesn't take into account salary.

Agreed on the Jabari front, I love him so much but I acknowledge he's very damaged goods, so surprised he was grabbed so early. Maybe his star potential still carries a lot of weight.

This would be a great exercise for this board if people wanted to do it. I think logistically might be too hard to coordinate 30 posters for 30 teams. We might need people to double up.

Let me know if people are interested in this and we can pick a date/time in the next month to try and pull this off over say a four hour period. Then compare how high people went and who we think built the best team.

An amazing thing you guys could do would be to maybe record the stats of these players over the course of the season and set up some type of head to head system. Maybe have some sort of playoff type tournament at the end of the season to determine which team is the best. You don't even have to keep the regular team names too. Probably could come up with some wacky names.

If this is really only for this season and not future. You really have to question the competency of the pickers if Ball went 22 and Jabari 46. I dislike BR so I'm not going to click to nitpick any others though.
