Go to Kavala, it's more beautiful. Visit its castle, the Aqueduct and take a coffee at the hamam-converted-to-hotel at the old town ( called Imaret? haven't been up there in yeears). Take the bus to Komotini, there's no train going through Kavala. It's about 60 miles of highway, a really small distance.
Komotini is quite unique for a greek city, about half of its inhabitants are muslim greeks, and its own market district has an distinct eastern flavor. East some Sutzuk Lukum when there, visit the Old Mosque, and take a cofee at their massive central square.

Yeah, Alexandroupoli ain't bad at all. I come from southern Greece and have been to eastern Macedonia/Thrace only twice, so if anyone else has better suggestions is really welcome.

Re: Greek Vacation / Greeks in Greece
I've gone to Kavala twice (passing or staying a night or two on vacation), and also visited Alexandroupoli some times (during my military service I was stationed close-ish). So not an expert even close.
I don't think you can do wrong by choosing either, they are both interesting places to visit and see. Personally, I would consider Kavala first, it is a little easier to get around if you are only visiting for half a day.
kavala->komotini is bus, alexandroupoli->komotini is bus or train. Both cities are pretty close to komotini, so you shouldn't have a problem choosing either as far as transportation is concerned.

Green font isn't applicable to Australians. We're always sarcastic, except when we're not- in which case it's your own **** fault for not being able to tell.

Don't wear any Bucks gear. There's a chance you'll get jumped.

Re: Greek Vacation / Greeks in Greece
thanks eveyrone.
i booked to Alexandroupoli, was cheaper by 27euros.
i did go the the AEK v Brugge match,
much fun.
pretty sure the Brugge keeper is American,
and is rated about our 5th best, for usa.
i have also worn Bucks gear around town.
i think i was getting looks of jealousy,
might have been something else.
those that i have talked too about the situation,
seem to understand, or understand more when i mention hes about to get paid 22$M this season.
