It was in the rules that we could secretly come to an agreement of a trade during the draft and announce it publicly immediately after the draft was over. I was trying to be upfront with everybody in case my roster would affect how somebody else drafted. I feel like there was more integrity and transparency in the way we handled our trade.

But if you want to follow the rules to a t, then consider the Gortat for Payton trade official as of the moment pick #240 is made. Whether I get Payton right now or I have to wait until after pick 240 is a minor technicality. Either way, I will draft as if I have Payton on my roster and bigredbadger will draft as if he has Gortat. This way our trade is well within the rules that were established prior to the start of the draft and there should be no controversy.

I get what you're saying. But I think the problem is that people are complaining about collusion during the draft - if you're **** up by drafting too many centers and not drafting a PG, you should be held responsible for it. You shouldn't be allowed a back door to escape your own incompetence. (I'm using the "you" generally here...I'm not talking about you specifically).

It's not really a back door to escape if trades were agreed upon.

And I'm not personally speaking for anyone else, but I'm fine drafting BPA so long as they roughly line up with positional needs. In my mind it's a better idea to take a 25-30 mpg 6th man that I expect to have a big impact than draft the 30th best starting PG or take a flyer on a rookie when they're historically negatives. I've got two forwards who can initiate the offense. I'll find a guy to dribble the ball up the court and defend smaller guys when someone drops that outweighs BPA on my board.

I am suggesting a rule to trades ... The trade will be allowed considering the draft pick difference ...

Round 1 - Difference 1 .... example trade #5 for #6
Round 2 - Difference 3 .... example trade #35 for #38
Round 3 - Difference 5
Round 4 - Difference 7
Round 5 - Difference 9
Round 6 - Difference 12
Round 7 - Difference 15
Round 8 - Difference 20

With that in mind we can tweak our teams, but not hurt the draft procedure cause the players can be considered close to value.
It doesn't sounds fair to trade a Round 3 player for a Round 5.

Maybe we can just do no trades until after the draft. We can grade people's drafts, then give a week period for people to make trades. Then we could grade again. Just an idea.

I think it's the wrong paradigm. The guy drafted at #35 could have been a huge reach and the guy drafted at #38 might have been mid-first round talent that got bypassed because everyone hates the MFer. It's possible the guy picked 48 is a better player than the guy picked 31. Plus, trades of multiple picks from multiple rounds wouldn't be addressed by your paradigm.

Just let the triumvirate adjudicate.

I've been in sports simulation leagues. My experience in them makes me dislike having trades because the better GMs will be taking advantage of the worse GMs, even if any egregious trade is disallowed. It makes sense in a simulation league because the point is competition between teams. I don't think that's the main point of this exercise, though.

I believe the agreed-upon intent was to draft the best team possible to win as much games as possible. If that's the case and someone drafted constantly at BPA (because they thought skill trumped position and fit) and wound up with 7 centers, that's on them for the draft exercise alone. Anything beyond that, whatever, but for just the draft, it should be measured in your ability to judge how to compose a winning team.

geez, I don't want him on the bucks, long-term, but he's way too much value here.
