I mean I understand that everyone looks good in their highlights. Thon literally just won't even take one dribble any more. It's like he's afraid to put the ball on the floor.

Thon's plus is that he is 100% coachable, but it becomes a minus when your coaching staff orders you to do things you can't do and work on a trash scheme both ends. I mean they have pulled away all his offensive game, he doesn't shoot the 3, he doesn't even look at the rim when he catches the ball at the 3, he executes our stupid game plan by the book searching for the handoff pass to the wing.

I am sure a decent coach will use him, like Bertans, Markkanen, and play Center only against small ball lineups. Stevens would love to have Thon as Horford's backup too.

He is like first year Moose bad, minus the offense. Lazy, out of position, no motor, stupid shots, low bb iq, everybody on the team likes him cause he is a chill dude, but just is wasting his talent. Content with just making it here and collecting checks.

Excellent discussion of all things Thon on the Locked on Bucks today with Eric and Frank

https://www.stitcher.com/podcast/locked-on-bucks

Most apt description was from Frank noting that Thon does not have "functional athleticism"

Saw Diamond Stone at the G-league game against Chicago. Dude might legit be the worst center in the league if he was on an NBA roster. At least Thon tries. Diamond Stone doesn't give a ****.

Thon is such an interesting test case because he's clearly got a motor. So many guys that fail don't have one.

That said, if he can't control the motor he's going to end up playing overseas somewhere in a few years.

Extended time in the G-League would more rapidly bring this into focus. He needs time and the Bucks can't afford to play him atm.

It’s been a weird journey with Thon. On draft night, I was upset at the pick. Very, very upset. After last year, I was excited at what he could be. Now, I just keep wishing we took Dejounte Murray or any other prospect we leaped over in favor of Thon.

Keep in mind his competition at center each practice would be light PF types Giannis and Henson and DJ Wilson. My guess is he's decent playing the 4/5 against similar 4/5 types but hes going to struggle against bulkier players.

I'm going with there's something wrong with him right now, and/or he's not used to carrying around whatever body changes he underwent over the offseason.

Like the Davante Adams analogy.

He's athletic but clumbsy and he should be past that point. The weight is not climbing. The hands are bad. His eyes are still slow. Not saying dumb or low bb iq but the speed of the game is too fast for someone with adequate instincts who is still thinking on the court. He rarely rarely flashes and that's a very bad sign.

Tiny pgs and dirk isnt a bully so that helped him tonight. His late block won me money. Didn't think kidd could possibly be dumb enough to blitz the switches again vs dallas and I was wrong.

Ervin Johnson with a 3 upside around age 27?

Dunks once, NBA MTP (Most Thon Player).

To be honest I’m stoked he caught the ball better after it bounced off the ring tonight.

The problem is his balance and coordination which was also the problem his rookie season. Any added weight certainly isn't helping him hold his position in the paint or going up for rebounds.

In the last three games he's at +7, +11 and +5 playing about half the available C minutes.
