Now what's the chance they will offer him less than max if he finishes the season healthy with a 15-4-2 statline?

Until we get past the trade deadline in February, it will be too hard to be exact on which teams will have cap room. That said, it seems like only the Bulls would be a challenger at the moment to give Jabari a big offer sheet.

Medical staff could have long term doubts on his knee and we wouldn't have a clue. Letting this play out is the smartest thing we've done all year.

Not extending him now might save a few headaches later on. But we have to do everything we can until next summer to get out of Henson's contract to afford keeping Parker.

I am almost certain if Jabari stays healthy he will get max.

Yep.

Entire situation sucks and is terrible for him, but absolutely smart for us. Have to see what he looks like when he comes back.

It's sad because not giving him the extension is like the most obvious decision of all time...and yet its the smartest thing they've done in their tenure.

I'm assuming Horst was called 'cap expert' as he was able to explain the difference between FA and RFA to Hammond.

Don't know what the Bucks were offering, but if it was close to half of the max guaranteed, I think Bartelstein did Jabari a real disservice. There's a real imbalance in how the risk is parceled out within than relationship. Bartelstein has other clients.

The fun thing here is that he'll likely be auditioning for that max deal on the big stages of the playoffs. If it was just 25-30 games at the end of the season he wouldn't have time to get confident but with extra playoff games he might. Plus there's also the chance we catch a well coached team and they attack his defense for a full series. Will be a great sub-plot.

Another sub plot, let's say the Bucks are rolling in Game 60. Something like 36 and 24. The defense looks good. Ancillary players are drilling threes. Now Jabari is coming back. How much time/what role do you give him?

I would agree. I think anywhere over 15 million for multiple years would have been the threshold. Gets you set for life in case of reinjury but he's also young enough to get a huge contract next time if he stays healthy.

It's basically the steph curry deal. Which most would agree worked out very well for him.

Curry's deal was 18% of the salary Cap

today that same contract would be 4/72

For all the flack Horst has been getting we should all be happy how this is playing out so far. It would have been easy to give him a max extension. Now we roll the dice a bit but I'm good with it.

Be interesting to see if anything leaks out about the proposed Bucks offer. Might have been much smaller than we'd think. Who knows.

Yeah I'd like to know too. It's possible we intentionally low balled him and planned all along to wait and see.

I don't think he'd disrupt anything.. Especially as a reserve which he should be at least initially. Personally I think they gave khris to many minutes and ran him into the ground. With Jabari I want to see them truly ease him back in. 10-15 minutes a game at first. Build up to 20-25 minutes by the end of the year if he's progressing. He could be an incredible midseason boost for the offense. I have little doubt they'll need all they can get again.
