I honestly think he would make a very nice assistant GM, which would be a reasonable and viable progression in his career. The guy is not bad at all, they just threw him in deep waters too early.
But that's no reason to lose him entirely.

I had a chance just now to listen to Woelfel. He said he talked with a guy this morning who felt Larry Bird would like back into the game. From there Woelfel said Wes Edens should call up Bird.

Yeah, this isn't happening.

Yeah, Horst should get another lower tier office gig with someone (Weltman/Hammond or someone else with Detroit ties) rather quickly. NBA front offices are the brotherhood of forever employment. GM might not be in the cards ever again, but he'll easily get the opportunity to push some papers somewhere else. Plus, I think most other organizations would understand the **** show.

On a serious note, we can all see something like this happening:

Doc Rivers let go from his coaching role with LAC to get a "promotion" to POBO of the Bucks.

Press conference where Doc says he's got to take a break from the day to day grind but feels the need to use that experience back in the Midwest in a different role.

LED and Doc say they really like the bright energetic work of Jon Horst, who stays on as "General Manager"

Doc in consultation with LED hire Monty Williams as coach.

There, that's your likely dream team from the offseason changes.

ETA: two years later, after Monty is sucking it up, Doc feels like he's responsible for the situation so he jumps back in and takes on the coaching duties after releasing Monty.

Carlisle is signed for 2 more years? A) Why would Dallas give him up B) How much would we have to give them.

Carlisle is the dream scenario but I just don't see how it happens.

I'm so torn between wanting so badly for this to be true and simultaneously not believing a word that Gery says

Carlisle makes a deal with Dallas to come back in 2021. With Giannis...

They will hire a POBO and keep Horst as GM. They won’t want to admit a mistake so they will just add one more decision maker to this mess and the POBO will be forced to keep the GM.

You wouldn’t expect anything else would you?

It's weird, every time I read 'POBO' I see this image:
