If you were told you had to deal pick #17 what would your deal be?

Post#1 » by paulpressey25 » Wed Jun 13, 2018 4:38 pm

Discussion starter for a slow week:

Let's assume you are GM and are instructed that you've got to deal pick #17 for either:

Veteran immediate help
Salary cap flexibility

Or a combination of both.

What deal do you try to make and why?

Kick the tires and make offers on Kemba, Dame, then maybe CJ or Beal.

What is #17 worth? A few months of JJ Redick? Ugh

Henson/17 for Al Jefferson/23.

Jefferson is only guaranteed $4M in 2018.

19 and 30 or 19 and 34. I'm not trading out of this draft. I think there is depth low 1st, high 2nd round in this draft. Bucks need depth on their roster. They've had 5 or 6 viable rotation players for a few years now. Plus they are up against the luxury tax, so they need players on the cheap. Don't need to acquire guys on big salaries or who are closer to one. Using these draft pick(s) delays that process until we are out of the woods with your Snells. And the Bucks will lose another 1st round pick in the near future. Can't go the way of the late 90's, early 00's Bucks where we close our window up very fast in part because we sell off so many long-term assets.

Even in your theoretical exercise I'm keeping the pick(s). It's worth more to us than the next guys imo. Don't care they've blown recent ones. They are not doomed to that fate. Use Thon to spice up a Bledsoe deal for a little better vet and fit.

Step 1. Use #17 to dump some salary.
Step 2. Sign LeBron.
Step 3. Profit.

Henson was an adequate starter this season. I think we're at the point with a lot of team where we don't need to give up or dilute assets to unload him. Should get a full clearance if we act now. If we wait again that opportunity may well go by the wayside.

That's more something we might have to do with Delly. Although I'm inclined to ride it out with him as the backup or see if LeBron demands his new team to acquire him before acting. We definitely would have to package a significant asset with Snell but I'd rather move him when his value hasn't totally bottomed out.

I'm not averse to moving down a bit in the draft though, even if we don't get another pick for it, because a lot of prospects bleed together.

I would use it with some combo of players to try to trade up and see how high I can get. My targets would be Mo Bambo or Trae Young if they fall far enough to a team willing to do said trade. My only untouchables would be Giannis and Khris of course.

If all that fails, I use it with Bledsoe to trade up to the Clips to ensure I get SGA at 12 or 13. Maybe I can talk the Clippers into this trade if they think Jordan is gone no matter what
http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=y8n686ck
exchange 17 for 12 or 13 if SGA is there.

This is terrible. Like what are we going to do with 7.3m in less salary? It's not like we suddenly get a bunch of cap space.

If you can drop Snell and let Jabari walk, you're a Delly or Henson trade for expiring away from extending Middleton AND having a max slot next summer.

its more about 19-20......it frees up $9M for 19-20, when Midds will most likely opt out and become a FA. Add Telly's $10.5M to that and Bledsoe's $15M, now you have cap space.

Klay Thompson would look good in a Bucks Uni next to Middleton and Giannis.

Is this accounting for whatever Middleton’s cap hold will be too? I honestly had no idea we had that kind of opportunity in the future.

Middleton's cap hold is 19.5m, Brogdon's cap hold is just shy of 2m.

But we'd have 1 max slot with Giannis on the roster, Middleton not yet resigned, RFA rights on Brogdon and no Parker or Bledsoe. How is that enticing, really?

Spot on.Attach 17 to snell and try to move him.Delly is probably untradable but Henson isn't overpaid anymore and he only has 2 years remaining.

What great pg is a free agent next summer?Kyrie?

We can go over the cap and sign Kemba (who we'll have acquired at that point) + Middleton. So Giannis, Kemba, Middleton, Brogdon, and Dedmon. I think that would be a lure.

But I think we'd ideally wait until the trade deadline to move Snell when his value hasn't bottomed out. Then maybe you don't lose another significant asset. In the meantime maybe you see how 17 plays out. If he's a beast off the bat you hold, if not maybe pull the plug early and attach to Snell. We should be able to trade Henson for nothing this offseason. And Delly is sort of elective, although under this plan he'd have to go by the deadline too. But that seems very doable. I've always been intrigued of the idea of clearing cap space to make a run at a free agent in '19.
