Potential to be a hot commodity in that 3rd year, with only a partially guaranteed 4th year. That's a pretty massive trade chip.

Yeah, I had some reservations on this also. Knowing the fourth year has a minimal guarantee makes this a no brainer. Well done by the organization.

Bledsoe must have insisted to Rich Paul that he was ok taking less money to make sure he could stay with the Bucks and increase the chances of the team staying together.

Not sure which of our free agents he cares most about continuing to play with but I suspect he isn't the only one willing to take at least a modest pay cut (like Giannis did) to keep going.

Lasry says Middleton isn't willing to but maybe that was more a negotiating tactic.

Either way maybe Brogdon and / or Lopez are ok taking a hit for the team.

"Right now, we jellin'," Bledsoe said when asked why he didn't wait until free agency to sign the extension. "I'm around a great group of guys. They like brothers to me. They took me in with open arms last season, and it's paying off right now, so why not?"

I wouldn't call it backloading. It's just normal 8% raised each year - pretty much standard operating procedure. .

Is that how it goes?? (sorry not an expert :D )
Pretty sure I've seen a bunch of contracts with a flat amount year on year...

And Hammond is a former exec of the year. This sentence appropriately illustrates how transitive property is bull.

It was in Lowe's piece on Middleton from a week or so ago. No hometown discount is gonna be given from Middleton, apparently.

Hopefully we get the “Im not that good” discount then

How close do we think Bledsoe and Brogdon are?

They certainly seem to compliment each other well on the court.

Bledsoe taking less makes it easier for Brogdon to make more. And / or maybe they both get similar contracts.

Either way the Bledsoe extension makes me think a quick agreement with Brogdon is more likely vs a prolonged RFA negotiation that would likely bring in more money for him, but makes it harder for the Bucks to keep more of the team together.

I wonder if this deal is part of a Rich Paul power play to lure other Bucks with upcoming contracts (GA)?

This extension looks even more lopsided once you include the NG 4th year. Like someone else mentioned earlier, it gives the Bucks a huge trade chip before the 2021-22 trade deadline. Which could help bring in a disgruntled star player who has already made it clear he won’t resign with his current team (i.e. AD, PG13, KP and Boogie). Not sure who that player might be but it doesn’t hurt to keep your options open.

From Zach Lowe Ten things I like and don't like: An end-of-season spectacular article really shows how important Bledsoe has been.
The Bucks replaced non-shooting centers with Brook Lopez mostly to open the floor for their only remaining non-shooter: Antetokounmpo. But the extra space has helped everyone. Bledsoe, healthy and bouncing with an angry verve, has become one of the league's most dangerous one-on-one scorers in semi-transition with the paint clear. He is roasting dudes several times per game. Isolation became a dirty word, but it can be the best method of attack if all four potential help defenders have to stick to shooters. (Antetokounmpo almost counts as a shooter when he doesn't have the ball; defenses aren't going to ignore the MVP co-favorite.) Why call up a screener -- and bring an extra defender to clutter driving lanes?Bledsoe is shooting 72 percent in the restricted area. Mini-LeBron is finishing like Real LeBron. The Bucks have scored 1.14 points per possession when Bledsoe shoots out of a drive, or kicks to a teammate who launches right away -- seventh-highest among 164 players who have recorded at least 200 drives, per Second Spectrum. (Antetokounmpo is No. 1, at 1.17 points.) Bledsoe doesn't score in Milwaukee like he did as the No. 1 guy in Phoenix, but this has been the best all-around season of his career. He should have made the All-Star team, and deserves major consideration for an All-Defense spot.
If Bledsoe continues at this rate his contract is a steal.

Bledsoe and Giannis should both be 1st team all defense

Let's hope Bled nabbing 1st team isn't the high point of the Bledsoe experience in Milwaukee.
