I mean would be count it as a win? Or would it immediately turn to why did he only sign a short term deal?

How long of an extension can Giannis sign for?

If he signs a shorter term extension, would there be financial benefits signing a bigger super max later?

Officially known as the "Designated Veteran Player Extension," this rule allows teams to re-sign qualified players to maximum five-year contracts worth up to 35 percent of the salary cap with eight percent escalation in each subsequent year.

The length of the supermax deal depends on the player's years of NBA experience and years remaining on his current contract.

A qualified player who has completed seven or eight years of service and has two years left on his contract is eligible for a four-year supermax (keeping the player with the same team for a total of six seasons)

A qualified player who has completed seven or eight years of service and has one year left on his contract is eligible for a five-year supermax (keeping the player with the same team for a total of six seasons)

A qualified free agent who has completed eight or nine years of service is eligible for a five-year supermax

I don't know, I don't really care to be honest. Whoever wants to count something as a failure he will find some way to do it, that's just the nature of sports commentary.

To me it would be a W for the Bucks FWIW.

As far as I can tell, there is no benefit to Giannis to sign a 3+1, or something similar, barring knowledge of the tv deals exploding again.

The supermax is 35%, and the ten year vet max is also 35%.

At least we know he isn't going to Toronto now.

As long as we have Thanasis, we have a good chance to keep Giannis but I obviously would feel better about it if we had Kostas as well instead of LA.

Its days in Milwaukee like today that make me think Giannis could leave. This weather blows.

God the media can all get ****. The slightest mention of anything that's not "I'm coming back" is just an instant freak out moment. Watch WWE if you want these ridiculous storylines.

I mean, the weather blows in the majority of NBA markets this team of year. If Giannis wants to bolt to L.A. for the weather, then there's nothing we can do about that.

From an outside perspective, it seems like weather would be near the bottom of the list of things that Giannis cares about when picking a destination. He has voiced how he values privacy (something he can kiss goodbye if he goes to LA or other big markets), winning, loyalty, and family. Bucks are doing a great job providing everything Giannis has expressed value in, it would be a really bad look for the NBA if Giannis were to bolt from this situation because of weather

You know the NBA has a huge problem when people are worried the come from nothing, humble MVP will leave his 70 win team at first opportunity because of the weather. Not to mention we can give him way more guaranteed $$ than anybody else.

Will be hard to watch the NBA if Giannis were to leave for some big market, what more could the Bucks do? Definitely would feel hopeless as a Bucks fan. Gotta find a way where the small markets can keep their stars

Obv Giannis can sign on for a lot more with us. But if he did choose to go, could he sign say a 1+1 elsewhere and then for a supermax with said new team?

It's like the Nixon interview. ESPN got him on tape now.

"Milwaukee or L.A or whatever will be awesome".

ESPN : Giannis : "LA will be awesome "

Lol in the words of Aaron Rodgers, "r-e-l-a-x." I feel like one of the few who isnt worried at all about Giannis staying.
