2020 NBA Draft Thread - Spoilers OK

The Indiana thread is maxed out and we don't have the pick anyway so this will be the draft thread.

In the past we've had a no spoilers rule, you could only post and discuss after the Commish announced the selection. We're changing that this year. Go ahead and post Twitter picks if you wish and if you wish to wait until the announcement refrain from reading this thread until then. This change worked well for the NFL draft this year.

SPOILERS - There will be some player picked early that will not live up to his draft status. There will be a player picked late who outplays his expectations. We will be sad that we have neither.

Any chance Cole Anthony falls to 42? Who’s a realistic target that could fall to us? I don’t know much about this class in regards to who might be a value pick in our new range.

I spent zero time looking at 2nd round guys for this draft and now we have two picks. The general consensus I am getting seems that there isn't a ton of difference between 20-40 in this draft. Is that way off?

No, he won't fall that far. If one of the perceived 1st round PGs falls to 42, it seems like it would most likely be Nico Mannion at this point; his interviews have reportedly been a disaster and there's a decent amount of speculation now that he could fall to the 2nd round.

I'd say 25-45 is probably about the same. 20 you can still get a lottery talent to slide to you.

I'm a little bummed that we'll miss out on whichever PG would have slid to 24 such as Cole Anthony or Tyrell Terry but we'll still get a pretty good PG or C prospect available at 42 and possibly a decent wing too. Just less exciting guys like Payton Pritchard vs. exciting but flawed guys like Terry/Anthony.

This draft has a lot of good shooters.

Yes, Quickley is projected to be available at 42.

Based on Givony's latest mock, the following would fit the criteria and are projected in the 2nd round (just going to include the whole 2nd round since it can pretty easily go off the rails). Name & projected draft slot:

Jordan Nwora - 32
Jahmi'us Ramsey - 33
Isaiah Joe - 34
Nico Mannion - 36
Cassius Winston - 38
Payton Pritchard - 43
Immanuel Quickley - 45
Skyler Mays - 46
Grant Riller - 48
Elijah Hughes - 49
Mason Jones - 51
Justinian Jessup - 56
Ty-Shon Alexander - UDFA
Sam Merrill - UDFA

Where's Yam?

Also, you were telling me to check out Ty-Shon, right? Big overdribbler, but I don't think he has to be that way and he looks like he could do the shoot, attack close out, pass or finish thing we need. We should keep an eye on him. He competes, too. Release is a lot prettier than a similar player in Quickley.

Yes, I love Alexander. Definitely don't think he's capable of handling the ball as much in the NBA as he did in college, but he defends his ass off and can shoot it.

Yam is currently projected at 47. I'd love to have him but he was asking about shooters and Yam isn't a good shooter, at least not yet. He'll likely be near the top of my list of desired choices at 42 though.

Has anyone but Nehm actually confirmed we are getting both picks #42 and #60 tomorrow? Haven't seen that anywhere else.

One of my favorite reads each year: 5 scouts discussing all the draft prospects and having their comments blended together by Seth Davis.

Good question. I've been digging around trying to figure this out as well.

No, but the details about the draft picks involved have been pretty tough to come by in general. I think Givony reported the #60 pick. Bobby Marks reported the Bucks picks. Nehm reported the #42 pick in conjunction with #60. I don't think Woj or Shams really said anything about any of it but you'd imagine working for the same organization as Woj and Shams that all of that stuff was probably confirmed.

Asked in the other thread but I don’t think anyone saw it, is Markus Howard realistic to get at 60?

Riller or Ramsey at 42 would be cool. Not sure who else might be a good target for us in that range?

Yes.

As for 42, the guys I'd be looking at are basically the same guys I was looking at at 24:

Cassius Winston
Robert Woodard
Xavier Tillman

And then some other guys like:
Any of the other less exciting guards (Yam Madar, Pritchard, Riller, Tre Jones, etc.)
Ty-Shon Alexander
Elijah Hughes
Daniel Oturu

I'd totally take Markus Howard with the 60. He'd hit like 40% of 3s two steps back from Brook's preferred deep 3 location if left wide open. On D he'd just have to fight through screens most of the time in the drop zone.
