What 7 million a year player this offseason does? I get that it's uninspired but panic move seems like an overaction.

If Giannis stays, it kills the future ability to make trades.

And if Giannis leaves it kills the future period. Would rather have a two time MVP and limited assets for a few years than no MVP at all.

If he leaves and you remain a fan, I assure you that you will care. If he stays it'll still hurt.

It's the three years that bugs me more than the $7M. I think they didn't have a great Plan B after the Bogdan deal fell through.

Has it been confirmed all 3 years are guaranteed? I was hoping there would be a NG similar to the Hill deal.

I think the reality of players saying "no" to team-friendly contracts would hit harder than you think. I think it'd play out like this:

realgm: "DJ, we'll offer you 2 years at $5 million/year, second year is a team option.
dj: (signs with another team)
realgm: "ummm Jeremy Lin, we'll offer you one year at the minimum? "

Downgrade from Hill but he’s still solid. It’s a bit meh, neither great nor terrible.

Stat people might like

Pick and roll percentile:
19/20: 73rd, .94 PPP
18/19: 81st, .96 PPP
17/18: 90th, 1 PPP
16/17: 80th, .94 PPP
15/16: ~85th, .9ish PPP

That's got a lot of potential playing off Giannis.

Two previous years in Orlando DJ was a 99th percentile spot up shooter at around 50%.

Upgrade from Bubble Hill.

Downgrade from regular season 48% 3P shooter Hill.

I think Hill another year older and due for a shooting regression is far more likely to be the former rather than the latter.

Had no idea about the stats but felt like I have been watching DJ for two or three years thinking about what he would look like playing with Giannis and Lopez.

FWIW I think they were right to prioritize this kind of investment at PG. Just annoying that the Nuggets got Facu at the BAE.

I don't like Avery Bradley, and he got paid more than Augustin.
My solace is that it's not the worst contract of the day (Hayward).

That is annoying. He's pretty much exactly the same player as Augustin, except younger.

Just want to point out that DJ is a year younger than Hill
