Market briefly went up by about 70. Now falling again. It seems like usually after a really bad day people try to will it back to it's previous in the morning and then the rest of the day it gets chipped away. The chipping starting this early into the red is not a good sign.

I almost YOLO'd on bitcoin at 39, glad I didn't. Hello parents basement and pb&j dinners if I did so. If these 8k predicitions hit (maybe even 12k) I will probably buy one.

Hopefully retirees or anyone else who will be needing cash has at least a year's worth on hand. I'd hate to have to be selling anything right now.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

I appreciate your optimism on that. I think it is very likely some of these many early retirees will be going back to work in the next few months.

Try maintain some liquidity if you can. If things get particularly stupid, as they often do in these significant crashes, there'll eventually be some good bargains out there.

You're right. But If people retired early and never planned for something like this that sucks because they should have. And I know some of them. Built up a nice nest egg in the bull market the past few years, retired early and kept all their money in the market. And crypto. Now they're crying.

Of course most people never accumulate enough to retire early, or ever, and have to keep working because social security alone isn't enough. I feel bad for them. Hard workers who just didn't make much.

Mrs. Finn & I are like 60% conservative & 40% in stocks. Our mix is up 5.4% for the year. I wouldn't touch crypto with monopoly money.

An interesting if unreassuring bit from today’s New York Times:

“Everyone’s freaking out — like, ‘I lost my life savings,’” said Mr. Collins, who founded Tether with Mr. Pierce and now runs a crypto venture called BLOCKv. “That’s a tragedy, but it’s just as much of a tragedy when someone says, ‘I went to a casino and lost my life savings.’ But that doesn’t mean let’s regulate casinos out of existence.”

The key takeaway from the chart above is to stay the course.

Buying what a politicians spouse buys probably beats the the typical market return by 10000%

Anyone thinking of hopping into Ethereum pre merge? I've given up wrapping my mind around crypto but from what I read it could take off due to emission reductions and predicted restrictions against bitcoin because of the mining energy consumption.

Obviously timing the market is a bad idea. I funded my Roth in full in January. My 401k is already maxed out for the year. In hindsight I should have spread them both out over the calendar year but I didn't.

Now the extra cash each paycheck stays mostly in cash. I haven't sold anything in taxable investments but I haven't added much to them. Maybe 10-20% buying dips (that keep dipping). I'll just ride this out

Do you have any annuities? I've been researching them for work, and if I had a lump sum available, I would definitely be sticking it in a Fixed Index Annuity. Preferably one with a payment option that allows for increased payments based off of inflation.

Would really like to get into market a bit with the new job I have quite a bit more excess money that right now I just plunk into a savings. What is the best route for something to grow the loot over the next 3 to 5 years before I hopefully buy some property?

Ain’t nothing safe right now. The inflation link Series I bonds are probably your best bet. Limited to 10k per year
