Because any signs of productivity he may show would drive his price up. Given his performance in the G-league, I'd bet there are a handful of teams that would offer him a guaranteed deal right now if he weren't under contract already.

However, I just remembered we have a little of the MLE left unused, so we could use that to give him a 3 or 4 year deal. Is there enough left for prorated rookie minimum?

Interesting question. Only deals signed using the minimum salary exception prorate, so we wouldn't be able to go longer than this year and next year.

And you're hard capped if you use the Arenas provision to re-sign someone, so someone could sign him to an offer sheet that tops what we could offer in non-bird rights and we'd either have to use our MLE or lose him. It is not unprecedented for a 2-way guy to get that kind of deal on his next contract; John Konchar just got one this past offseason after playing well in a couple hundred minutes for the Grizzlies last year. They used part of the MLE to keep him.

I guess they both can shoot 3s and entered the league at the same age.

Are there protocols he has to pass?

Ervin Johnson was 26 his rookie year, this dude still has two years before he is that old. Young enough!

But seriously for role players, does age matter? Very unlikely you are locking them all up to a second contract, so being a bit older might be a more limited ceiling, but I don't suspect many guys are going to make this roster and have starting roles for the next ten years.

I was surprised to see it but he outclassed Reed in their matchup.

Givony has his third G-League "What we learned" piece and still no mention of Diakite. Paul Reed gets some graphs. Even Nwora gets a blurb. Weird.

I'm pretty stunned that Lakeland is in the Finals without Diakite. Franks and Hogg in particular have really stepped up. Mane playing less has also helped.
