Why not both?

Diakite is eligible to practice and play with the team full time for the rest of the season and playoffs on his 2 way contract, and we control his rights in the offseason.

Yup, RFA. No team has ever lost a player as a RFA after a 2 way contract. I expect the Bucks to sign him to a multi year minimum contract in the offseason.

This is a very short history, though. It could happen. Particularly when the team holding the rights has a severely limited àbility to match offer sheets. Best to push it out a year.

This. If you believe in the development of a guy, such as emunney does. There's no reason to sit on it and wait for some semblance of a breakout or demonstration of productivity at the NBA level when we have as limited flexibility as we do. Diakite himself probably isn't in a position to turn down a guaranteed deal for himself as much as it sucks for him, but that's the nature of two ways. They're team friendly, not player friendly. Might as well use that to your advantage while you can. It's the type of win on the margins move I've been railing against Milwaukee for not making.

You might be right. They have to wait to sign Diakite anyway, so wait to see what the buyout market presents to us, and then decide.

How is Diakite not on this team? His defense alone should have him in the rotation

Most teams have 3-4 guys you could see in the NBA in the right circumstances. Lakeland has Diakite.

I really don't see an advantage in pulling him early. Let him dunk on more fools rather than ride the bench here.

I'd rather just have him get heavy rotation minutes for 4 more games. He'll get more development out of that than limited time/practice in the immediate. He'll be in MKE after the bubble.

To me, if you are bringing him up in Feb to play 8 - 10 minutes of defense it's a waste of time. Let him finish the G League and get some burn first then start working him into the rotation.

Sign him to a max.

The dunk shots were extra spicy today.

Bring him up and let him work with Suki if nothing else. He's too good for the G League and I don't want him picking up too many bad habits because those dudes can't guard him.

At least give him those Thanasis minutes for a few games and see what he can do. It really feels like he could help the team.

We have longed for such a time that we find one of those fringe guys who turns into a real player, and we kind of found one with Brogdon (albeit at the 36th pick), but it's kind of crazy to think we might have one of those guys and we're fine not figuring out what we have with him.

I understand fans are excited about a potential prospect but due to the contract situation we may be best adviced trying to hide him.

I'm always extra cautious with guys that put up monster numbers in SL and G-League, but man, at this point I'm wondering how in the hell this kid didn't get drafted. Couldn't have just been the age thing.

Seems like a modern big. Odds are he is better than DJ Wilson appears to be high.
