Donte is a stud and Bobby Portis was flexing with those crazy eyes. They lit up the saltics.

Jrue was not good in the second half. Had a bad turnover (his only turnover) late. But you take the ball out of his hands for the last 4 minutes as what, some sort of punishment? You'd rather have Middleton attempt yet another high degree of difficulty lob late in a close game? Thats just bad coaching. Lucky to come away with a win there.

Yeah its getting old. Especially the tight, late game lob. Middleton has really improved as a passer, playmaker, and lobber over the years. But he should never be making that pass in that situation.

I rewatched the end a few times. I think the no call on Smart when Midds missed the 3 was bad. The Brook no call wasn’t as bad as I initially thought. Still garbage officiating to end it, but even worse play by the Bucks.

Yup. Only took a couple games. Promising.

Exactly. Overall Midds had a good game. But whats the point of trading three years worth of assets for Jrue Holiday if you're not going to put the ball in his hands come crunch time? Especially since he's not only shown the ability to make big shots and bully his way to the paint, but because 9/10 times he makes the right pass after the defense collapses.

Yeah, this is not rocket science. Ball has to be in Jrue’s hands down the stretch. Let him read the defense and make the right decision. He almost always does. His turnover last night was because he caught the ball in the corner and got doubled. That’s not the right place for him. Khris can be used as an iso man every few possessions, but it can’t be our default option for the last three minutes.

Despite the ugly finish, this is my biggest takeaway from the game. PJ had a couple of really good 1 on 1 defensive stops. Very promising indeed.

Rewatching the highlights its astonishing how many wide open shots we gave them in the 4th. Off of memory, we were equally bad getting quality looks of our own.

Brook was really moving slow out there, he may need a game off or two. Im hoping pj is in the game for him to close once hes in shape.

As for offense, literally any strategy would be better than kill clock, stand around look confused, and force things late in the clock. Spam the Khris/Giannis screen game to get Khris a good mid range look. Do that over and over, who cares.

I will say, Giannis was clearly not 100% and Jrue was having an off night so maybe thats all part of it but if we are going to be a championship team we need to get much more savvy in big moments. I cant imagine the old spurs teams not executing high percentage looks in crunch time or leaving guys wide open.

Yeah, having another guy who can stone the post and keep big wings in front is really nice. He looked like a thicker Wes Matthews, and we've missed Wes.

That said I don't think I want to see much more of the lineups where PJ is the sole 'big', particularly if the other team is playing a vertical spacer. That seemed ill-advised.

First good look I got at PJ last night. Thought he was really valuable and effective defensively and stayed in front of Kemba and Tatum a few times. That is your better version of Torrey Craig right there.
