The Grayson extension is small enough where I don't think it plays any part in not keeping Donte. Donte not being healthy will be the main factor there.

If Donte recovers and plays well, he's going to get a nice contract next offseason and the Bucks will have the option to match or let him go. Honestly fine with this turn of events, especially since Allen was probably the less-likely of the two to be retained. Donte is Jon Horst's one currently good player he's drafted. He's not gonna let him go unless he gets vetoed by the owners (which means Donte plays really well and we probably repeat) or he's just unsalvagable.

I'd like to think that's true (Allen extension not an indicator of whether we'll extend Donte), but I think the powers at be have convinced themselves, much like with the Brogdon situation, that Donte is pretty expendable based on the results (championship without him) as well as the fact that we tried to deal him just last offseason.

Didn’t realize the Allen deal wasn’t fully guaranteed. This is a steal if he becomes the player I think he will be on a Bud/Giannis team.

Donte missed a majority of his rookie season with injury and will miss a big chunk of this season with injury. Makes sense to wait.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

I would love to lock Donte in a long term deal now that his stock is down because of his injury, but I can understand that Horst chose to ride it out. No bad feelings there. On the bright side he will have to fight for his money and beat Allen to clarify a 10ish deal. If I had to make a prediction, it would be that Donte will bounce back but having Grayson eating minutes DDV's stock won't go above MLE money. My guess is that both Donte and Portis will stay with 10 mil contracts and Pat will either work his way in that territory or just opt in at 5.7 mil. The problem is that...

Jrue/Hill
Allen/DDV
Midds/Pat
Giannis
Brook/Bobby

...are on pace to cost 170ish mil. That's not counting Thanasis, 2022 FRP and other min contracts that will cost an extra 10 mil. I could see Brook with his 14 mil at 34 y/o being the odd man out next season. Bobby should be able to take over and Giannis spending more time at C is small lineups could be a thing moving forward.

I was going to ask if Huerter's contract was a decent comparable for the high end of what DDV and Allen might get.

Goonies.

"The NeverEnding Story" for me. I still liked the ending when things start to get more meta, but man the first half or more was such a slog.

“Grayson has made a smooth transition and he’s already fit well within our system and culture,” said Bucks General Manager Jon Horst. “We have always been fans of Grayson and his impact on winning and his ability to spread the floor with his outside shooting. He also adds competitiveness, toughness and intelligence to our core. We’re excited to extend our relationship with him.”

He also wouldn’t have liked if we let him walk for nothing to save luxury tax dollars.

Looks like Hambone and company held onto Bamba just long enough to see him become something. He's looked awesome in preseason. Hope he can stay healthy.

A little bit of an overpay for Grayson but I think teams are trying to lock up players before the cap spike so they are willing to bid high. That Shamet deal though, woof lol.
