Bucks great Bob Lanier passes at age 73

Post#1 » by paulpressey25 » Wed May 11, 2022 6:04 am

When the Bucks acquired him in trade from Detroit, it was the equivalent of the Packers getting Reggie White. Instant title contenders.

He was a great player, on some great teams. If today’s orthopedic medicine was around, Bucks would have gotten a title in the 1980’s. His knees were just so bad. We couldn’t play him back to back games. Total warrior. Played until his body gave out.

8x all-star. And a great guy around town also.

Sad.
A pair of his size 24 shoes were hung on the wall of Morry's on Prospect. Don't know if the shoes or the bar are still there.

Damn. Sat across from him on a flight once. Very personable. Bucks better honor him before game 6.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

It's a bar called Vintage now. Used to work there, met my fiancé there. Definitely no shoes on the wall.

Anyways, sad news. RIP.

And by winning in 6.

I’m too young to remember his playing days, but he was one of my dad’s favorite players.

RIP Bob

RIP, half my avatar. A great center and a really nice person. When he had Bob Lanier Enterprises I worked in the same building as his offices were and got to sit and talk with him a few times. Always fun and funny. Later, a really effective spokesman/ambassador for the NBA.

An all-time Buck and an all-time guy. Had the pleasure of meeting him on several occasions when I was a kid. He always remembered me at the games when I had floor seats and took the time to talk to me occasionally during shoot-arounds.

Huge fan.

Wish I could have dragged him up and down the court one last time.

Adam Silver put out a nice statement.

Bob Lanier was a Hall of Fame player and among the most talented centers in the history of the NBA, but his impact on the league went far beyond what he accomplished on the court. For more than 30 years, Bob served as our global ambassador and as a special assistant to David Stern and then me, traveling the world to teach the game’s values and make a positive impact on young people everywhere. It was a labor of love for Bob, who was one of the kindest and most genuine people I have ever been around. His enormous influence on the NBA was also seen during his time as President of the National Basketball Players Association, where he played a key role in the negotiation of a game-changing collective bargaining agreement.

I learned so much from Bob by simply watching how he connected with people. He was a close friend who I will miss dearly, as will so many of his colleagues across the NBA who were inspired by his generosity. We send our deepest condolences to Bob’s family and friends.

Rip Lanier. One of the great tough guys on the court.

They just have to look up in the rafters to number 16 for inspiration.

I worked a lot with his son and played many noon ball bball games with him. Really nice guy (his son) who is now a full time minister in Milwaukee. RIP Dobber.
