Shhhhh, don't let the Boston hype machine know that they're still a team built around two mental-midget ISO wings.

The new defensive philosophy of aggressively physical and pressuring on-ball defense that Griff is bringing in from the Raps is a very welcome change going into a Boston matchup given how sloppy Jaylen is with the ball, to a lesser extent Tatum, and given that they don’t have a true lead guard. Hoping Dre/MarJon are playable this year because they have the exact physical tools needed to actually execute that style vs the Jays.

I think such a dominant talking point with the national media with the Bucks/Celtics is “who do they have to stop the Jays?”, which idk, we didn’t really have that before and still took them to 7 without Khris and virtually everyone but Giannis vomiting all over themselves offensively lol. To me it’s very possible we’re actually closer to being able to guard those guys than before, while they’ve gotten noticeably worse in being able to guard Giannis.

Marjon is the key to our entire season and should be the starting SG on opening night imo.

Yeah, the media is ignoring the Bucks have often played with one hand tied behind their backs because outside of when PJ took over defensive coaching duties in 21, the Bucks have allowed teams to have consistent wide open looks from three.

Sometimes it didn’t matter like in 19 when Kyrie decided to shoot the Celtics out of the series, but sometimes it did, like in 19 against Fred, 20 against the Bubble Heat, 22 against Grant Williams and Al Horford, and 23 against Straus/Vincent/Robinson.

And that’s before mentioning that outside of 21, the Bucks rarely even pressured on the ball outside of Jrue and Carter doing so on their own. In 22, Carter’s pressure on Brown wrecked him in game 1. Then Carter didn’t get to play again and they went back to letting Brown dribble with his right hand into whatever shot/spot he wanted.

Bud’s system 100% let teams and players get too comfortable at times and it hurt the Bucks. It’s no coincidence that the one time they win a ring, the players on the court started doing something else entirely.

It is an absolute coincidence because besides the series vs. Miami, the Bucks have literally had a historically great playoff defense throughout the entire Bud era.

And still vragging how they beat us in 22 in the POs 4-3 and how horford dominated giannis even though gisnnis had a great series

Both sentiments are kind of true. By the numbers, the Bucks playoff D was largely dominant under Bud. It also consistently allowed teams/players to get red-hot due to the concession of the deep ball. Bud's math was sound, but it did fail many times to account for the playoff environment. We were stout in the paint and by the nature of our style of play, team totals were low. It was never fun seeing Durant/Jimmy/Trae/whomever get super comfortable in a tight contest.

We are honestly due for a playoffs where our shooters make wide open shots and the other teams' shooters miss contested shots.

If someone had told me before the start of free agency this year that Khris would come back on a discount, Brook would be resigned, the Bucks would trade for Dame, resign Crowder for the minimum, sign Cam Payne and Mailk Beasley on the minimum, and not lose Marjon in the trade to acquire Dame...

Having multiple guys that can come off the bench this year and score points is going to be so nice.

Both teams had a ton of open 3s. Brook let Horford and Grant Williams take turn destroying us from 3.

Outside of Brooks man, we were fine though.

Against Miami, the only open 3s were from Brook not hedging. Jimmy did get hot, largely because Jrue played terrible defense on him

Suppose Jae Crowder is back to his old self, someone suggested a starting lineup and I have to admit it is intriguing because it helps us defensively. Dame, Khris, Crowder, Giannis, Brook. Could this work? It gives us size, but not speed.

Adding Dame was great, but we still don't have enough playoff rotation guys. Hopefully a youngster develops, because Beasley or Crowder ain't it.

Sure, but he wasn't very good in 2021-2022, so I don't know what would change. Not saying he's terrible, just not an asset either.
