Taurean Prince signs with Bucks - one year deal

Post#1 » by paulpressey25 » Wed Jul 3, 2024 9:33 pm

Assumed the signing is for a one-year deal

He’s 30 years old. BB Reference page is here -> https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/p/princta02.html

Doesn’t he sort of replace Beasley?

I see him more as a replacement for Jae, albeit a smaller and less physical version. He could slide to the 2 in a bigger lineup, but I don't see him as quick enough to guard 2s on a consistent basis. I see Wright as the Beas replacement.

I can’t believe he’s 30. Where the hell has the time gone?

This is a good pickup. Decent bench piece who can play spot minutes in the playoffs without giving up a lot.

I do feel like there's a chance some potentially better free agents end up settling for minimums when the dust settles, but can't be mad at this or the Wright pickups. Both pretty solid players.

Wright and Prince is obviously a good step up from Beasley/Crowder defensively, as low as that bar was to clear. I am still hoping we have a move for a starting SG. It seems like we are a bit overloaded now with SG/SF while also not having a clear pecking order or defined roles.

SG: Green, Wright, Jackson
SF: Middleton, PC, Prince, Beauchamp, Livingston

An actual NBA rotation level wing that isn’t in his mid-late 30s, I will take it lol.

Between this add and the second apron issue, I feel like PC is about to be gone.

This is another solid vet min signing. He's a guy who can start for Khris if Khris is out or play 20 min or so off the bench. Decent shooter and defender.

I've seen some people talk about playing him as a small ball 4 and I don't see that happening much considering he's a bad rebounder, we'd likely get killed on the glass if he had to play the 4 for extended stretches

I feel like something has to be coming, if you can our 2 ways we have 3 bigs, 2 point guards, and 12 wings
Coach Drew: "Milwaukee has always been a team that I have been intrigued by. When we played them, they were a tough team for us to play. Although we did beat them all four times"

It's fine. All you can ask for, given the resources.

His net ratings over the yrs are suspect, but they are discernibly better at PF, where we'll likely play him most, as opposed to SF.

Rebounding's the concern here. I don't think he should be played w/ Brook much. Nobody would grab a board. Already an issue.

Giannis small ball mainly, sometimes Portis (if he stays) at C, Prince at PF may work.

Nice the Bucks needed a wing that can shoot and defend both forward positions.

I’m really surprised he was available for the minimum

Feeling good about it.

Last season, Taurean Prince appeared in 78 games and started 49 times for the Los Angeles Lakers under then-Lakers head coach (and current Bucks lead assistant coach) Darvin Ham. The 30-year-old Prince averaged 8.9 points and 2.9 rebounds in 27 minutes per game while knocking down 39.6 percent from 3 on 4.6 attempts from deep per game. While the 6-foot-6 wing with a 7-foot wingspan spent the majority of his time at power forward in his three stops before Los Angeles, Prince played small forward 70 percent of the time last season with the Lakers, according to positional estimates from Cleaning the Glass.

He's a big, who can't rebound, but still.

Net ratings:
'24: +1.4 at PF, -2.1 SF
'23: +3.6 at PF, -2.3 SF
'22: +2.4 at PF, -5.1 SF

Just keep him away from Brook, but next to Giannis, maybe Bobby, history suggests it works well enough, & better than SF. AJJ flying in to get his hand on boards would help. Giannis-Prince-AJJ-Brown?-Dame would be a good lineup, that could board.
