OT: Olympic Games Basketball

Post#1 » by Nightfall » Mon Jul 8, 2024 10:03 am

Since both USA and Giannis with Greece participate, I thought it might be easier to follow on a new post (if not please move accordingly and sorry for the inconvenience)

The Groups :

Group A:
1. Australia
2. Canada
3. Greece
4. Spain

Group B:
1. France (host)
2. Germany
3. Japan
4. Brazil

Group C:
1. USA
2. Puerto Rico
3. South Sudan
4. Serbia

Who Qualifies for the next round ?
2 tops of each group
2 best thirds

= 8 teams

Brackets after Group phase have not been finalised yet. The only certain rule is, that no teams from the same Group will face each other in the Quarterfinals.

Group phase starts on 27th of July with the following games:

Australia vs. Spain
Greece vs. Canada
France vs. Brazil
Germany vs. Japan

First USA game on the next day 28th of July
USA vs. Serbia

Finals (and obviously last day of games) 10th of August

Note: France is on Central European Summer Time ( UTC +2), so expect sh*tty broadcast hours for the USA viewers (even though the will distribute the games throughout the day from morning to evening). CDT should be -7hrs from France Time.

Use the following link to quickly compare time between France and Wisconsin (CDT):

Australia for some reason cut Thybulle and put Delly of all people in the final team. Granted we already had an army of 6'7ish athletic defenders so I guess that's somewhat logical. Dunno what we need Delly for when we already have a bunch of other vets on the squad.

Guessing Canada and Australia get through the group of death, but there always the chance Giannis pulls one out.

It really is a group of death, on their day any team could qualify.
Also poor S.Sudan...

The Olympic format really compounds the difficulty of the "group of death" thing too.

The 3rd place finishers in the other 2 groups will likely have a better % having had the opportunity to run up a cricket score against South Sudan and Japan.

I always start to get really in to Olympic Mens Basketball, and then I can't find anywhere to watch the games.

Does anyone know if there is a channel or a package where I can watch any/all of the mens bball games? Delay is fine too.

looking forward to Raptor trolls since their NBA team is a bottom feeder.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

That's when we hit them with the Architectural Digest skyline rankings.

Olympics are scattered between NBC, Peacock, CNBC, USA Network, NBC Website, etc. Here is a good basketball resource

https://www.nbcolympics.com/schedule/sport/basketball

It looks like Greece/Canada will be live on CNBC on 7/27 at 2:25 pm CDT. U.S. first game against Serbia on 7/28 will be at 10:15 a.m. CDT on NBC.

US vs. Sudan on 7/31 at 2:00 p.m. CDT (NBC)
US vs. Puerto Rico on 8/3 at 10:15 a.m. CDT (NBC)

It looks like every game will be on Peacock as well.

I know it was a friendly but France just steamrolled Germany in Berlin, right? I respect the Germans given their Eurobasket and WC wins in the last two years, but I'd place France ahead of them, personally.

US should win easily.

Who know though I guess.

The day after tomorrow the Greek National Team comes to my city Thessaloniki for a friendly game against Puerto Rico....

Please help me choose wisely ...

If you had the opportunity to get a jersey signed by Giannis himself ... which one should I buy and get it signed ?

1. The Bucks 2022-23 Nike Assosiation Edition (White colour)

2. Jordan Brand Bucks 22-23 City Edition (Dark Green)

Or

3. The Olympic Games 2024 Greek National Team Giannis Jersey #34 (sky blue)
