Which Wisconsin team is most likely to win a championship this season?
We've got some really good teams that all have a chance at winning a championship. Yelich being out for the season hurts, but the Brewers still keep surprising me in a good way. The Packers are young but are very solid. The Bucks are still an elite team. Fickell got Cincinnati into the CFP. The Golden Eagles have a good coach and a good team. The Badgers Basketball team isn't as good as it used to be, but they aren't terrible either. Will any of them bring us a championship this season?

This is a good thread. A reminder that for a small state and small market we definitely hold our own in the sports world.
I’m going with Packers. If Love proves he’s the real deal, they’ll be in it.
Bucks 2nd but still major concerns in the defense.
Had a dream last week the Brewers finally made it.Then Yelich goes down.

Re: Which Wisconsin team is most likely to win a championship this season?
It's definitely not the college teams. College Football is way too dominated by the top teams and in college basketball any team can get hot at the right time and win but that's legitimately like 40 teams who probably have a chance and a 1/40 chance of Wisconsin or Marquette being that team is pretty low
Baseball is similar where whoever gets hot can win it so I'd roughly give the Brewers a 1/12 shot of winning the WS
The NFC is very weak so I think the Packers have a solid 20% chance of getting to the Superbowl and if we give the NFC team a 50% chance of winning the Superbowl that gives the Packers roughly a 1 in 10 shot at winning the Superbowl
The Bucks are more a question of health imo, if they get to the playoffs fully healthy I think it's still them or Boston to get to the Finals and then roughly a 50% chance of winning the finals from there. Now I'd estimate the odds of getting to the playoffs fully healthy at about 50% at best.
So based on my highly scientific odds and percentages I'd go
Bucks 1 in 8 chance(12%)
Packers 1 in 10(10%)
Brewers 1 in 12(8%)
Wisconsin/Marquette Basketball(2%)
Wisconsin Football(less than 1%)

It’s hard to not say the Bucks, with Giannis, Dame, and since we won it all three years ago. But I think I lean Packers because the NFL is just more volatile. If Love picks up where he left off last year, it feels reasonable to be right there in a weak NFC.

If Love is as good as he was down the stretch / as good as his contract the Packers should be right there with the Bucks. But since I don't have total confidence in that, it's still the Bucks.

Re: Which Wisconsin team is most likely to win a championship this season?
It’s a pretty thin gap between the Bucks and Packers for me. I leaned Bucks but if Love and the rest of the young crew can build off of last year, there’s a shot to go the distance. Hell, we almost took down that 49ers team in the playoffs.
The NBA seemingly gets more volatile every season. With the seeding usually not mattering and with there being a different champ in the last 6 seasons, I think the Bucks have a solid chance, but so do a lot of teams in the 1-8 range in each conference. The playoffs are won by healthy teams, which we have not been for 3 seasons in a row now.
With a better bench and an upgrade at the 2, we are more equipped to survive potential injuries in the regular season. But in the end, Giannis, Dame, Khris, and Brook all need to be healthy in order for us to have any shot.

Re: Which Wisconsin team is most likely to win a championship this season?
The Packers should be running away in this poll IMO.
I don't follow the Brewers so I can't speak on them.
The Packers have a better football team than the Bucks do a basketball team, the Packers are legit and there just aren't a ton of good teams in the NFL right now. In the NFL, simply not being horrible gives you a shot. I wouldn't pick the Packers to win it all if I was making my NFL picks right now, but I would give them a real shot. I wouldn't be shocked if the Packers won it all this season.
I would be shocked however if the Bucks made it to the Finals.
The Bucks actually had a nice off season and the overall depth should be improved. The team should be better by simply no longer having Beasley on the roster. If in 20 years from now someone asks me Give me an example of a losing basketball player I will still be telling them about Malik Beasley.
That said, I would never bet on a team whose best player can't stay healthy and whose body now breaks down every April/May. And a team whose 2nd best player is a 34 year old volume shooter who has about as much interest in playing defense as I do in getting a root canal. And then you have Middleton who is out 4-6 weeks every time he falls down and is physically incapable of play B2Bs.
No thanks.
Even if we pretend that Giannis suits up for a playoff game and isn't hobbled and we then also pretend that at age 34, Dame finally tries on defense. I would still only give the Bucks a puncher's chance. Even if Giannis stays healthy, the Bucks are still too old and Giannis & Dame are a horrible fit with each other.
At this point I will be happy if the Bucks can simply just make it out of the 1st round for the first time since 2022. Packers easily in this poll.

Re: Which Wisconsin team is most likely to win a championship this season?
I think the Bucks are #1 in my book. They have a player who has a claim to the throne, and enough quality talent around them that they could win a title. Of course, injuries could derail them, as they have in recent years. But the same can be said for any of these teams, frankly. If the core is healthy, there have a legit claim to being a favorite.
The Brewers have a shot, certainly, especially with how well they're playing. But I just don't know if they have the horses to win it all, especially when compared to teams like Philly or the Dodgers. But I'll never say never.
Packers are exciting. The offense looks great and the defense has some quality talent. But people might need to pump the breaks a bit on them. They finished 9-8 last year. They're still quite young. I still need to see their defense stop someone when it counts. So, I'm excited about them, but I cannot put them ahead of the Bucks or a team that is currently in a virtual tie for best record in the MLB.
None of those other teams deserve a shout.

Re: Which Wisconsin team is most likely to win a championship this season?
I'm as high on the Packers as most, but the answer is the Bucks. Dominant MVP caliber player in his prime, aging but viable 2nd and 3rd bananas, solid veteran depth. Obviously, this is assuming we manage health better. The biggest factor is 7 game series versus single elimination. We've seen so many great Packer teams fall short because of one game or even quarter meltdowns.

Re: Which Wisconsin team is most likely to win a championship this season?
I think the Brewers will get overwhelmed with a talent gap at some point in the playoffs. I think the Packers are going to win the super bowl this year or next year and I think Love will win two with the Packers. I think the Bucks are going to at least make the ECF this season, but I'm not willing to guarantee a finals return. I think I go Packers, Bucks, then Brewers.

On paper they aren’t particularly great but just keep winning. Baseball is often weird in the playoffs and they are weird enough to make a run

According to Vegas:
Bucks: 13:1
Brewers 15:1
Packers 19:1
Marquette Basketball: 55:1
Badgers Basketball: 130:1
Badgers Football: 250:1
Bucks should be 10:1 at worst IMO
Packers also appear to be a solid bet if you are fully sold on JLove, they should have shorter odds than the Crew

Bucks are slightly more likely than the Packers imo, but its pretty close. The Nfl playoffs being single game elimination means that there is more variance though, only need to win 4 games instead of 16 like in the NBA. Just need to get hot like the last time the Packers won a championship.

They've actually underperformed Pythagorean W/L expectations and have the best run differential in the league. Brewers are legit.

I wanted to pick Bucks but the reason I chose Packers is because I’m one and done elimination games I feel the chance of a run is easier.

Brewers. We're at least 98% sure they'll make the playoffs. Bucks almost certainly will too, but injuries happen.
