Game 80: Pelicans at Bucks - 4/10/25 - 7:00 - FDSWI

Post#1 » by MickeyDavis » Wed Apr 9, 2025 2:08 pm

New Orleans is terrible but we barely beat them without Giannis (and Bobby) a few days ago. First of a B2B, at Detroit Friday night. Magic number to clinch #5 is 2. If Detroit loses to the Knicks Thursday night and we win this one the 2 Detroit games remaining are meaningless.

No way Giannis plays a B2B. I think he sits this one and only plays Friday if we need a win to clinch #5.

As usual please limit your posts in this thread to this game only. Thanks.

It's called sports. It's called basketball, in particular. One team, you could say, will basket more and win? The other, I am afraid, will not. Some will even, they will lose. Beautiful game.

If Prince/Kuzma are the starting 2/3 in this one Doc needs to be Mike Malone'd at halftime.

He's not going to change the starting lineup with 3 games to go. Other than Bobby starting if Giannis sits. Hopefully he has a quicker hook with Kuzma and Prince if things start to go south.

We need a new starting line up. With that said if we clinch the 5 seed tonight. There's no reason to show that till the playoffs.

Now if DET wins tonight. Better be a new line up tomorrow.

If Detroit wins tonight there is a huge problem since they aren't scheduled to play until tomorrow.

I found the content of this thread with unclear and mixed thoughts of what we should do in the short and long term future.

Essentially it is clear that Giannis has played exceptionally well in the last 3 plus games without Dame playing and we have won. On the other hand, Dame is a superstar who we have for now and probably for the future. Any thoughts?

Thoughts are Giannis is not very high IQ at basketball (along with most of this team and coach and GM and VP and P and Ownership). He doesn't know how to screen well or play without the ball. The last 1.75 seasons with dame has proven that. it also has proven the same for dame.

Interesting.

Let me preface this by saying that I was in full support of the Dame trade. Even in hindsight you make that trade 11/10 times. And I think a lot of the Dame slander here is ridiculous. BUT going back to 2018-2021, I was always under the firm belief that the best way to build around a guy like Giannis is with superior role players. He doesn't need another superstar, and having another superstar makes him (and Dame) think way more instead of just hooping. The 2019 Raptors built perfectly around Kawhi. 2021 Bucks around Giannis. 2022 Warriors around Steph. 2023 Nuggets around Jokic.

If we make Dame available, which I think we should at this point, I think you try to come away with 2-3 certified role players and go from there

The Jrs should be able to get a W vs the G League Pelicans. Pels should be actively trying to lose so 76ers don't catch them.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't we only have to win 1 of 2 with the Pistons to lock up #5? I don't get playing Giannis in this one.

We still had 2 all stars and wet Jordan in the playoffs. Who are those guys on the team now? And how do you even acquire those types of players with Dame, don't think it's remotely possible.

Yes, but...

If they win 1 against Detroit they're the 5 seed regardless of what happens otherwise. If they win tomorrow and Detroit loses to the Knicks (very plausible given that the Knicks haven't yet locked up the 3 seed and will play everyone) they clinch the 5 seed.

So basically they're banking on Detroit losing for a chance to lock up the 5th seed. If the Bucks lose tomorrow then they still have to win 1 of 2 regardless of what happens with the Knicks game. If one of two of those games doesn't go our way it basically doesn't matter and we need to beat Detroit once.

Devin Harris was once an all star. Same with Mo Williams. Good players, but certainly never stars. I think Holiday falls into that same category.

Khris is the true debate. Borderline star in his prime.

As for how we acquire them, that's up for our front office to be creative enough to do it. But I think the last week and a half has showed that this team can be competitive with Giannis as the main guy with a bunch of good (doesn't have to be great) pieces around him (and good coaching).

Knicks are all but locked into the 3-seed (they'd have to lose all 3 with Indy going 3-0). They don't really have much to play for, but also.....it's Thibs lol. He just played Brunson 34 and 38 minutes coming back from a high ankle sprain.
