ORL-MIL, Redd for Turkoglu and expirings

ORL fan here. As posted on the ORL board and the trade board....

Ok, I very rarely post trades and Hedo is doing a fantastic job this year, I'd hate to see him go, but this is and idea based around the article stating that Milwaukee are putting most of their team on the trade plate, except for Yi and Bogut.

According to other MIL fans, your biggest need is at SF.... so....

Orlando trades:
Hedo Turkoglu
Carlos Arroyo
Pat Garrity
Two 1st round picks

Orlando Receives:
Michael Redd

Milwaukee trades:
Michael Redd

Milwaukee receives:
Hedo Turkoglu
Carlos Arroyo
Pat Garrity

Why for Orlando:
To shore up the SG position. I'm hesitant to deal Hedo, as well as he's been playing this year. He's really been the spine of the team this season... however, this frees up Rashard Lewis to play permanently at SF, with Redd at SG.
A follow up deal would be required by Orlando to find a replacement PF, preferably one who can adequately defend and hit any open shots that are left from Howard being double teamed. Trade bait would be the expirings of Evans, Bogans and Dooling.
Another 'hole' remains at PG, where Nelson is more vulnerable without Arroyo and without Hedo's playmaking. I'd love to see Andre Miller or another equally capable PG in Orlando but they probably don't have the assets to do this deal and another for a PG... especially given the more pressing PF need if Turkoglu is gone.

Why for Milwaukee:
With their season starting to slip following losses such as the massive one to Detroit, this is primarily a cost-cutting deal. They essentially halve the money owed to Redd from their books at the end of the season with the two expiring deals of Arroyo and Garrity.
In addition they get a SF to plug the hole they have there who is playing almost as well as Redd. Hedo's playmaking ability helps Mo Williams play a little more off the ball, freeing him to score more.
They also get two 1st round picks out of the deal.

You will probably find some takers here, but I think we don't need less talent, and mid/late-round picks aren't enough to make a difference on this team.

I would do it, no questions asked. Frees up capspace, provides draftpicks and a SF who can actually play basketball at an NBA level.

My only question would be whether the Magic would do it.

Not terrible but I'd hold out for a deal with a lottery pick or comparable prospect if we are rebuilding like the Sonics got for Ray. Picks we get here are just too low.

Maybe if the Magic agree to tank for the rest of the season?

As a Magic fan, they should do it... it would be a question of whether we can find a capable PF. If Villanueva was worked into the deal, while not giving much more up from ORL's side I'd say it would be a done deal.
Otherwise, they look at a follow up deal to try to obtain someone along the lines of Kurt Thomas.

You guys are crazy. Who's supposed to play SG at an NBA level then? And what happens when this 34-game sample proves to be not as accurate as Turko's career numbers?

I definitely don't want to disrespect anyone at all, but I believe a trade like this would be looked back upon like the Ray Allen trade, or worse.

Absolutely not. If all we're getting is expirings and late 1st's then we need to dump one of Simmons/Gadz.

You're correct. I've fallen into the trap of thinking that EVERY trade is a good one because I'm so sick of this team.

Good thing that I'm not the G.M.

If the Magic were closer to the top 10 with regards to their pick I'd do it for Turk/expirings/unprotected first. Just not enough there though.

Hedo is a really nice player but he's a byproduct of playing with Dwight and Rashard......not enough.

I'd take Turk, but giving up Redd is too much for him. He would be perfect at SF for us but that isnt enough. Magic will be on top for a while so their picks arent as valued anymore...

+1

Hedo's been a mediocre player until this season. All of a sudden he can net you a player like Michael Redd? LOL

Sorry ORL fan but that's a horrible trade for Milwaukee. You're also trying to dump 2 hated players on them too. LOL .

To play devil's advocate... look at what Iverson fetched in a trade: Andre Miller, Joe Smith and two 2007 first-round picks to the Sixers for Iverson and Ivan McFarlin...

You've got a very similar trade here. I've been hoping the Allen trade is a better reference point for Redd but maybe that is overly optimistic.
