JJ Redick

Post#1 » by DanoMac » Sun Jan 6, 2008 8:28 am

On Wiretap, it says the Magic could be looking into making some moves. Since JJ Redick is basically a poor man's Redd (a possible future Redd), do you think it would be a wise man to somehow trade for him if we decide to let go of Redd? I'm a huge Redick fan and would love to get him.

I like him too, although he's a very poor mans Redd right now. If we didn't part with much i'd bring him in, even as a backup 2 (even if/after redd left i mean) if necessary. I think Reddick was specifically mentioned in that article too wasn't he?

I can't stand Redick, he's more very, very, very, very poor man's Peja right now. If he's the main piece of a Redd trade I think I may stab myself in the balls with a tuning fork hoping that would take my mind off what an awful trade this would be.

How is he a poor man's Redd? Redd isn't even the elite shooter he once was anymore. He's just a scorer, plain and simple. He can drive and get to the line. Redick can't.

I would never trade Redd for Redick.

I figured somebody would correct me. I just didn't feel like thinking of a scrub who he's the poor man's of.

I certainly wouldn't trade Redd for Redick straight up (I assume that would not work salary wise anyway), but I don't think that is what is suggested. I'd like to get Redick on the Bucks, I've caught some of his games for Orlando and he isn't the defensive liability I expected him to be or that JVG has suggested he is in the media (nor has he really had problems getting his shot off)- not suggesting he has become a stud, but he did appear to be about an average NBA defender. I wouldn't mind having been able to throw some of the bench time we've had for 2 guards to JJ, the kid can still shoot like hell.

Id imagine that having Dwight Howard in the paint is more threatening than Andrew Bogut.

I sincerely hope no-one thought i or danomac were saying trade redd for him straight up, not in a million years. What i did say was i think he'd be a nice backup 2 if redd left. You'd still need a starter in front of him. He can shoot though.

I imagine it is, but it's not like Redick's really getting the playing time for it to make a difference anyway... either way, even with a dominate shot blocker in the paint if a chump is defending you you'll still go to the hole. My point is I'd rather him taking the minutes than some of our current bench guards.

I agree. Bring him in and let him have a go as a backup, can't be worse than some of our backup minutes now. He might grow into an NBA starter over the next few years, but if he doesn't being a decent NBA bench player isn't exactly a shameful achievement either. I'd be happy to get him.

More I think of it the more I like it, just depends on what has to be given up for him.

I'm in IF he brings the complete set of his instructional DVDs because we need those, and if they also throw the rights to Rashard Griffith back our way.

Those commercials are hilarious. I love how they describe Redick as "perhaps the best shooter in the history of basketball" or something like that

This isn't a big trade idea, just a thought on an interesting backup guy who we would only want if not much was sent in return. Next time try to use a few more faces in your post. :D

1. Reddick is not a poor man's Redd. Not even close whatsoever.

2. Reddick is a horrible defender and cannot penetrate on ANY defender in the NBA. He has trouble getting his shot off because of his size.

3. We have zero use for him.

If Michael Redd could only shoot from half court JJ Reddick still wouldn't be a poor man's version of him.
