OT - Bobby Jones?

Anyone know what the story is with this kid?
I remember having an eye on him a couple of years ago.
He just got cut from Denver, but really don't know why.
But with our current situation at SF, would it behoove us to put in a request for him?
Do we have to like put in a waiver request or how to teams go about picking him up. He was a second rounder and here's his scouting report pre-draft (Notice the Bruce Bowen comparison)
EDIT: After reading the Denver board it looks like they are not happy with this move. He is a SF and wasn't a good fit at the SG spot (he needs to improve his shot). Now I'd really like to see us make a move for him.
nbadraft.net
NBA Comparison: Bruce Bowen
Strengths: Big, athletic guard that can really defend on and off the ball...One of the best defensive shooting guards in college basketball...Tough as nails...Excellent rebounder for his size...Led UofW in rebounding last season...Gifted athlete who runs and jumps with the best of them... Tremendous lateral quickness...Great basketball IQ "Plays within himself" and a motor that doesn't stop... Great in transition and finishes well at the rim... Rapidly improving his jump shot and outside game...Wants the ball in crunch time and hit many big shots for the Huskies...An all out hustler who plays with the kind of intangibles that coaches love.
Weaknesses: Ball handling needs to improve to play the 2 at the next level...Moving without the ball... Free-throw shooting...Often foul prone, may be because of his aggressive defensive style, but still fouls out too often...Needs to continue to improve outside shot... Not enough attempts to determine how well he really shoots from the perimeter yet and does not have NBA range at this time.

As a prominent member of the draft Bobby Jones in round 2 of '06, I'd be very happy if we somehow got him. I just don't think it's logical with our roster, he's not a proven difference maker and our roster if full, so it seems like a poor time to cut one non difference maker in favor of another (swapping 14/15 bench fodder for other 14/15 bench fodder just isn't likely to me). I'd take Bobby over Noel any day, but the organization clearly has a high view of Noel, evidenced by him being brought back this year and having stuck around to this point.
It seems that several of the Denver users believe Jones might be retained for a future 10 day and that his contract was shed for guaranteed money purposes.

This is the point of the year where I again ask "WHY THE HELL DID WE GUARANTEE STOREY?"
I'd rather cut him and have a guy who is a prospect to get better, not like our 30 year old Awvee "Neverending" Storey

is bobby Jones any relation to the other bobby Jones who is my age? Not the golfer, but the basketball player from UNC. i say this because I' m seeing a lot of former players' sons that are now graduating from high schools and colleges. Walter Payton's son went to Miami. Jordan's son went to Illinois. Walton's son is in the NBA. Scotty May's son is in the NBA. Del Harris' son is a GM. I'm just wondering if maybe bobby Jones might also be a son of the former all american.

Another of Harris' blunders you can say, and a guy they brought in before resigning Bell and after re-acquiring Desmond Mason.
He is also has not won anywhere he has been and he is taking time away from David Noel and Ersan Ilyasova who you drafted!
Harris does not have an eye for winning talent. He is cheap cars salesman GM who looks for the cheap fix and poor man deals...
Ivey, Storrey, and Voshkul are 'fillers' and not proven winners on the NBA level. Some say he hit a homerun on Mo and Bell and this or that.
But not really.
They are good players on bad teams...with no real indication they would be better on other teams.
Awvee Storrey? Just plain stupidity!
You might as well kept developing Noel and Ilyasova and not have hired a rookie coach!
This organization is not the San Antonio Spurs for brains I'll tell you that much...much less as good as the Suns and even Portland's now.

Thanks for the compliment
I hope Harris is reading this and heeds our advice jumps on Bobby Jones. Denver says his perimeter D is solid and he can knock down the open three.

Ha.
Bobby Jones started for the Grizzlies tonight against the Supersonics...his line 8-13 from the field for 20 points, 13 rebounds, 7 assists to 1 turnover, 1 block, & 3 steals.
It's the little things that hurt a franchise, like failing to identify an available player who can help. I don't expect this type of consistent production from Bobby Jones as he's mainly a defensive specialist, but somebody should wake me up when a small forward on our roster puts up these numbers in a game this year.

Yep, we are idiots.
We should've snagged Bobby Jones. We could've almost guaranteed him a starting spot before the end of the year.

I know a lot of us liked/like Jones, but I seriously doubt anybody (including Bobby himself) would have predicted he'd put up numbers like that. I saw him as a potential standout bench defender with a developing offensive game and a strong work ethic. It's too bad we didn't pick him up, but:
1) It's one game, and
2) Everybody in the league passed on him more than once.
I think he earned himself another 10-day contract, but if we really want him, we'll have an opportunity to sign him after the season.
