Michael Redd: super sub?

This is why coaches get paid the big bucks.
With Milwaukee Bucks guard Michael Redd getting ready to return to action after missing four games with a thigh injury and with the team riding a three-game winning streak, coach Larry Krystkowiak has a decision to make regarding just how he is going to work Redd back into the rotation.
Asked if he thought he would be able to play Friday night against the Los Angeles Lakers at the Staples Center, Redd said, “It looks good.”
When asked if Redd would be start right away when he did return, Krystkowiak said, “I don’t think so. I think he’ll come off the bench and flow into it that way.”
Redd has not come off the bench since the 2002-’03 season when he was a leading candidate for the sixth-man award.
Maybe Krystkowiak just wants to ease Redd back into the flow of things. Or, maybe the coach doesn’t want to break up the starting back court of Royal Ivey and Mo Williams that has helped the Bucks win their last three games. Or, maybe it’s a combination of both.
When asked how long he thought Redd would continue to come off the bench, Krystkowiak made reference to Manu Ginobili, San Antonio’s talented sixth man.
“Oh, I’m not going to commit to that,” said Krystkowiak. “Would you like Michael to maybe turn into Ginobili?
“Everybody in that locker room and our organization right now is thrilled to be winning some games. We’re heading in the right direction playing basketball and we’ll welcome Michael when he gets back and incorporate him into what we’re doing and we’ll just play it by ear. See how it goes.”
Krystkowiak does know one thing about Redd regardless of whether he starts or comes off the bench. “He’s going to be on the floor an awful lot,” said Krystkowiak.

I love this move if we keep up the defensive intensity in the backcourt.

Ok, if we win in LA or even play well and lose. I say you continue to bring Redd off the bench until we start getting are asses kicked by good teams again. Hopefully that doesn't start happening though. I'm worried about this game in LA, they have been playing great ball. And we have been sneaking by with victories against terrible teams.

The shots at Redd just don't stop.
Hopefully all of this has humbled him a bit.
I have a feeling though he's going to be trigger shy at first.
Kind of like when everyone was pissed at Kobe in LA. So he goes thru half the game taking only 2 or 3 shots.

yup.. I think his game will change from all of this. 5-6 assists per game?

I dont think he will be on the bench for more than a week...ivey isnt the man to be in front of him

If you don't want Redd to start you trade him simple as that.

I may not be a fan of Redd anymore....but I will not stand by and let the Redd bashing continue. ....he is our best player and for right now we have to deal with it.

Wait, nobody is bashing Redd, people. We're 4-1 since the new year, albeit against crap teams, but we're still winning. If we continue to be successful with Redd coming off the bench, how is this bad or bashing him?

Shenanigans.... whats the big deal if we use him off the bench? He'll get the same number of minutes but against weaker competition. If he can fill the Ivey role and guard, I would love it.

I predict before next Thursday we will see a 1 rebound and 1 assist type game....perhaps 2 if he is feeling generous

.....but alot of points against Kobe might get him what he craves most....an all star birth.

As soon as Ivey has one bad game and we lose, Redd will be back in the starting lineup. I'm glad however, that Coach K has the balls to make this move. A lot of coaches wouldn't put Redd on the bench at all.

I have no problem with testing out Redd as a 6th man, but i'm really worried about the Laker game. Redd did a terrific job last time against Kobe, who in our starting backcourt is going to matchup against Kobe this time around?
Ivey? Hah!

Generally he is a bad defender, but for some reason he upped his effort considerably last time he faced Kobe and did an excellent job. But having Ivey on Kobe, the size difference will be too much. Kobe will dominate Ivey.

Kobe will get to the basket at will....no matter who is on him....thats why the Lakers are so much better...Kobe creates great looks for his teammates this year....guess he now undertsands what it takes to win.

As if he didn't when he won 3 championships in a row?

And How's D-Wade doing without Shaq? I hate the argument of Kobe can't win without Shaq. Just like LA wouldn't of sniffed a title in those 3 years without Kobe, it goes both ways, they needed each other. Shaq just like Jordan needed Pippen and vise versa. Just like Wade needed Shaq and vise versa. The list goes on.
You can call Kobe anything you want, but the guy's a winner. If he truly only cared about himself and stats, they wouldn't of won 3 titles. Kobe and Shaq may have been both wanting the recognition of the Lakers being their team. But when they stepped on the court, that was arguably the best 1-2 bench in the history of the NBA.
EDIT : Bottom line, I shouldn't have to explain this but I will. Teams win championships, not players. The right mix of starts, role players, coaches etc. win championships. I guess you could say Jordan hasn't proven he can win without Pippen, or Phil Jackson. That argument could be made in so many different sports, and certain teams for and against certain players. Just last night, Ray Allen doesn't play and the team with the best record in the NBA gets drilled by Charlotte at home.
