CV, Gadzuric, Voshkul and either Ramon Sessions or this year

I understand while we would do it, but why on earth do the Sonics? Last time I checked, the Sonics are in more of a rebuilding phase than us at this point. Why would they take Gadzuric? This is like us tearing posters from the trade board apart because they want to strap us with long term deals.

Honestly, put yourself in the position of the other team's gm before you cook up deals, because this is awful.

Id say because they get CV. Plus the Gadz deal wont make or break them.

However, Im not sure theyd want CV, it depends on what theyre planning to do up front. Theyve got Collison at PF now, Theyve got 3 young centers who are all 22 (some in a few months but close enough), theyve also got Wilcox (im shocked hes only 25, partly because i didnt remember that he was 19 coming out of college, and partly because it seems that draft was a long time ago).
Then add in if they want CV to start theyve also got Durant and Green at Forward so theyd have to be comfortable with one of them at SG.

I think if they look to bring in another young guy it would be at PG, or possibly SG (again that depends on what they do with Green and Durant position wise). So in general i think theyre a bad trading partner, unless maybe in a three way someone can send them something theyd want.

CV doesn't have the value at this point to unload Gadzuric's deal and get a solid rotation guy in Wilkins. Not only that, but they have a lot of money tied into Chris Wilcox and Nick Collison at the same position. THEY DO NOT WANT LONG DEALS. They're rebuilding. It's stupid to think they'd take one on JUST to get CV.

We should trade CV/DG/Simmons/Unprotected 1st to Wash for Jaminson/Songaila IF we are anywhere near .500 by the deadline.

Collison I've also liked for a while. He would fit nicely as the third wheel in a Yi/Bogut frontline given he can play both big spots. He rebounds at a higher rate than anyone we have as well. Unfortunately he basically has the identical deal that Gadz has, but he does pretty much everything I'd want out of the backup big except block shots. So he'd actually, you know, "play" if we had him.

Wilkins has struggled after a nice start to the season but his deal is very manageable--$2.9 mm this year, $3.1 in 08/09 and then an ETO in 09/10 for $3.3. Not a huge bomber from outside but he can hit the three and from what I hear he's a serviceable defender.

I don't believe that to be true, and based on what I hear regarding Villanueva, it isn't true, at least in regards to a player in Damien Wilkins tier. I suppose this depends largely on one's assessment of Damien Wilkins though.

This would be more of the reason why the Sonics wouldn't have as much interest. We shouldn't overstate the amount of money they have committed to Collison and Wilcox thought, because although it is definitely significant, it isn't huge. However, Wilcox and Villanueva would both theoretically be beginning new contracts in the same season, so that could be a bit of an issue. I think KIAM provided some good analysis of this trade in the post prior to the one I'm responding to.

No, ideally they are not all that interested in long term deals, no.
But I think the "They're rebuilding, why would they do this trade?" is often overplayed when discussing potential trades with teams in their situation.

Teams in those situations still are willing to spend money in order to acquire assets, particularly of the younger persuasion.

Look at their acquisition of Kurt Thomas, for example. Kurt Thomas makes them a better team this season, which really doesn't fit with the "They're rebuilding, why would they do this trade?" mindset. That mindset says it is not good for the Sonics to be a better team this season because they won't get as good of a draft pick. But the Sonics were willing to overlook that AND to spend the $8,091,188 paying Kurt Thomas salary.
Their "bribe" from the Suns to do this is only two late, late first round picks in 2008 and 2010.


I don't know that the Sonics would have any interest in Diesel's trade, but I'm just trying to point out that things are not always so cut and dry in regards to what a team would or would not be willing to do. There are always many variables to examine.

From my understanding Chris Wilcox is on the trading block.. not Kurt Thomas, as they believe they need his veteran leadership (truth be told we could use his veteran leadership also). And it stands to reason that they are committed to developing both Kevin Durant & Jeff Green.. I don't see why they wouldn't be willing to move Damien Wilkens if the right deal presented itself.

Therefore if I were the Bucks.. I would propose some sort of deal with the Sonics that includes Chris Wilcox and Damien Wilkens.

If you check out the Sonics forum.. the fans are all for getting rid of Wilkens, and have been for quite a while. He has an equally low contract so grabbing him might not be hard. Perhaps it would be harder to grab Wilcox though.

Gee I didnt even know those guys were on the team. I guess thats why i didnt write it in my original post or anything.

The Sonics won't take on a contract that goes past the 2008/09 season. The plan, as of now, is to develop Durant and Green 09 when major money comes off the books and they can become players in the FA market. Villanueva isn't the type of player to make Presti & co. rethink their strategy.

I think the Sonics are a more valid trade partner than people tend to make out. I don't see them pop up very often in trade threads but they have alot of guys they'd be willing to trade... pretty much anyone outside of Durant and Green and Wilcox to an extent, it's open season on Ridnour, Watson, Collison, Petro etc.
