OT: Dish vs Cable
We have had this discussion before.
Just wanted to give an update on why I still have Cable.
My mom has Dish, last night it snowed and it went out for the millionth time. Except this time it never came back on. While talking on the phone with numerous tech's who tried trouble shooting by saying "check the cable, check the box....hold please" then transferred her to another tech who did the same thing between 7pm until midnight she was told she would have to pay a substantial charge for them to come out there and fix it.
Guess what happens IF my cable goes out? They come out and fix it for free. All though the only time my cable went out was 8 years ago because an animal chewed through the wire and they still fixed it for free, even though the animal was mine.

We all have our stories to tell about cable/dish.
When I had TWC I had outages all the time. And customer "service" was horrible. No problems with DirecTV. Not to mention better picture, lower monthly bill and dozens more HD channels plus NFL Sunday Ticket.
But certainly a dish isn't for everyone and neither DirecTV or Dish Network has perfect customer service.
The bottom line is if you are happy with your service, keep it.

There is no way in hell I would consider cable because of that reason. They almost lost the MLB package, which I purchase every year with DTV.

My Directv has lost it's signal maybe 4 or 5 times the last year, and it always comes back within a few minutes. It it was always due to severe thunderstorms or heavy (blizzard like) snow.
I have had more trouble with cable in the past.
I have had d-tv for 6 years now...no complaints, and tons of sports!

That's what a buddy of mine were talking about last night. What the hell do you do when your dish is on the roof? Mine is in the ground and I just go outside and wipe it off with a towel. When I did that everything was fine for the night.

Mine is on the roof....I can get to it with a broom and an extension when I walk out on my sun roof, but then I am just banging on it until the snow slides off, afraid I will know it out of alignment or break it. Ice, rain, and heavy snow do not seem to matter, only real wet snow has an effect.

I am excited to try U-Verse out. My only concern is that you can only have 1 HD stream at a time.
In the last year I have had Dish Network and Cable. Both services have worked well while I was a subscriber. My only complaint about either right now is the huge pain in the ass it was to cancel Dish Network, even when I was out of contract.
Like others have said, stick with what works for you.

I think I'm going to give U-Verse a try. I gave them a call to see if I"m in their area, but to my dismay I"m not yet. They have my number and will give me a call when they get Menomonee Falls into their program.
From the brochure it looks like a great deal. The main package that is similar to my Time Warner package is $85. With Time Warner I pay $112 for 1 HD reciever and 1 HDDVR reciever, about 15 HD channels, 100 regular channels, the music stuff and roadrunner.
With U-Verse I'd get 3 HD Recievers (only need 2) and 1 HDDVR which records up to 4 shows, around 30 HD channels including NFL and Big Ten, and about 100 regular channels and the movie stuff. It also comes with high speed internet. This is all for $85 instead of the $112 I"m paying for TWC. My only question would be how do the internet speeds compare?

UNfortunatley only one HD stream at a time. You can't record and watch an HD program (or record 2 hd programs) at once.
