Bogut back in town
Ex-Ute star is the 3rd leading scorer for Bucks

By Loren Jorgensen
Deseret Morning News

Andrew Bogut has returned to his college hometown on the heels of his best-ever NBA game. The third-year Milwaukee Bucks center scored a career-high 29 points on 14-of-16 shooting from the field Saturday night in a 122-114 loss at Phoenix. He also added 11 rebounds.
But for Bogut, his career night could have been better.

"It would have been sweeter if we would have gotten the win," said Bogut on Sunday. "Anytime you have a career game, you hope you win the game. I'd rather not get a career high and win than get the career high and lose."

Still, Bogut's play was enough to earn the praise of Suns All-Star center Amare Stoudemire. "(Bogut's) a big guy," Stoudemire told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "He's huge down there in the paint as a 7-footer. He was able to get a couple of easy baskets here. I played solid defense on him for the most part, he just made some tough shots and he's pretty good with that left hand."

Tonight Bogut will try to have both a good individual game while helping earn a win for the Bucks during his once-per-year, regular-season visit to Salt Lake City to play the Utah Jazz.

"The Jazz are a tough team," said Bogut. "They are a well-coached team. They play hard, they cut hard, they rebound hard. For us to have a chance we need to get effort points

I would say it sounds not wrong. He'd rather win than care about personal career highs.

Good find. Thanks for the article.
I'm glad that Bogut cares more about winning then scoring a whole bunch of points. Great attitude!

So, you'd rather he care about stuffing stats than winning?

You sound, not right, to me.

Actually it was his third, maybe fourth, best game.

"We've got a lot of confidence in Andrew," said first-year Bucks coach and former Jazz player Larry Krystkowiak to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel after Bogut's big game in Phoenix. "I'm not sure he knew that a month ago. We talk about it all the time and in fairness to him, we're going to start running a lot of stuff through him."

This part interested me. It was stated on this board that Bogut had been told to stop shooting so much when he had a trio of 16, 16 and 15 shot attempt games up to Dec 10. They were all losses. The next few games he settles to take 7, 3 10, 7.
He then averaged 10 attempts for the remaining 6 games of December and has now averaged 12 attempts in the 7 games so far in January.

It looks like he might be trending up to the 15 or so attempts that many on here think he should get - this time with the blessing of the coach. We finally get to see if more attempts taken with more confidence = better Bogut. So far, so good.

No doubt your first sentence is correct; but as far as overall performance I would go with his work on 1/12/07 and 1/15/07. January would seem to be his better month. Does he get a charge out of Christmas season?

Yeah, Bogut was totally off-base with that comment. Doesn't he realize he's a Milwaukee Buck?
