Building a team based on a "model" championship te

Ok, lets face it...this team isnt going anywhere. Its simply a terrible combination of players. Without going any further I just wanted to disscuss what makes up a championship team and whether the Bucks have anything close to it.

The PG of championship team

Trends show that it is really not necessary to have an elite PG to win a championship. It seems like having a combo guard who is capable of playing good defense, distribute well and follow orders is all thats necessary sometimes. Not every team needss a Magic Johnson to win it all.

Do the Bucks have it?
Mo williams is a solid option at PG if he plays smart and with intesity. When he doesnt than he is simply a cancer. Maybe.

The wingman
Every championship team seems to have a versatile wingman. A do it all type of guy who is usully one of the top two scorers on the team.

Do the Bucks have it?
Redd? umm hell NO!..think twice..if there is anyone on our team who could fill that role than it would have to be Yi. Yi has the potential to be that number one or two scorer on a championship team, and has the potential for great defense. But IMO he has to play SF in order to fill that role. Maybe.

The Bigman
It seems to be EXTREMLY rare that a team doesnt have that great bigman who controls a game offensivly and most importantly defensivly.

Do the Bucks have it?
Umm Bogut might end up being a good offensive player. But he will never be a force defensivly. Great defense is not something you can really develope...for the most part you either have it in you or you dont. No.

The motivator/s and teachers
every championship team seems to have a great, experienced coach. But more importantly every team seems to have a leader on the court that always has the swager and the ability to motivate teammates to play harder.

Do the Bucks have it?
No and No.

Balance, chemistry and role players
every championship team has role players like the defensive specialist and the rebounding machine. Those role players are there to help create an all around balance. For the most part, championship teams are good at alll of offense, defense and rebounding. So balance and chemistry between all players is extremely important.

Do the Bucks have it?
No way.

Bucks are as close to winning a championship as Michael Jackson is to being a child caring black dude.

Bogut looks a helluva lot closer to being a championship-caliber player than anybody else on the roster lately.

From what I can see Buck4life has absolutely no clue what it takes to build a championship or the ability to judge talent.......so how are you doing tonight Senator Kohl??

Yeah but he can't do it alone. If no one else shows up when he gets 23 and 10 then it's a wasted effort.

You haven't been around in awhile, B4L, and your post pretty much shows how little you've followed the team

umm wrong...yes I have been really busy with my personal life and havent watched every game like in most seasons. But I have watched every game I could..enough to make the assumptions I have made. You cant just make conclusions based on this season...especially considering that we arent really even half way thorough.

So you've watched about 0 Bucks games this year then?

Im not saying Bogut is a bad defender. He has surprisingly, dramatically improved. But if you are trying to say that Bogut is a championship calibare defensive bigman than ill tell you that you are wrong. And he more han likley never will be because as I said..I cant name too many bigman that came out of nowhere and became championship calibare defenders...all of them already were coming into the league.

Bogut looks a helluva lot closer to being a championship-caliber player than anybody else on the roster lately.

comparing Bogut today to the rest of our team could make him look like the GOAT..he has certainly been the most dependable player for the most part...but again...dont put this on a league wide scale.

Excuse my rambling.

The success of the team could center around trading Redd and who is brought back in exchange for him. He's a high production/high usage player, which is fine, but he's surrounded by another high production/usage guy in Mo, a high usage/low production guy in Yi, a low usage/low production player in Simmons and the only kind of player the Bucks need more of, a low usage/high production guy in Bogut.

Essentially if you trade Redd for say two low usage/high production players, that frees up possessions for Mo and Bogut in particular who would negate the things lost by Redd's departure, then you add in whatever the two new players give you and suddenly you have a better team. For example...

Usage rates
14. Michael Redd-MIL 27.7
15. Dirk Nowitzki-DAL 27.7
16. Tim Duncan-SAS 27.6
17. Amare Stoudemire-PHO 27.5
18. Allen Iverson-DEN 27.3

Does that look right to anyone else?

Yi needs to come off the bench IMO. His usage rate is higher than Bogut's but his production is low, CV is expendable as there's plenty of guys in the NBA who give as much as he does without demanding the ball so much. Ideally you'd replace Simmons in the starting line-up too with a traded-for player, but you wouldn't lose too much even if he stayed there. I think the key is finding a low-usage power forward who doesn't demand the ball alot but produces when he does get it. Guys like Haslem and Lee would be perfect.

I think the team should...

Trade Redd for like two of those high production/low usage guys I referred to.
Bench Yi. His usage rate is higher than Bogut's but his production is limited.
Trade CV
Trade Simmons if possible

I think a team like this would work so much better, it's not even comparable and I'm not convinced that the players aren't attainable.

C: Bogut
PF: Haslem
SF: Childress
SG: Mo
PG: Earl Watson

- Yi
- Bell
- Kurt Thomas
- Brevin Knight
- Voshkul
- Ruffin
- Sessions
- Mason

Anyway I don't know what I'm talking about most of the time, but this is what I think would work.

Best Lineup

I don't believe one can just say they want a championshiop team. You really have to just make do with the available talent. There is plenty of talent on this team. Some just fit better playing LK's system than others. In my opinion, the original season starters are the best possible lineup out of this bunch:
1-Mo -- a near first tier scoring PG, but still improving
2-Redd -- a definite first tier elite SG
3-Mason -- solid defender, and ugly but effective jump hook =)
4-Yi -- potentially best all around player on the team in 2-3 years
5-Bogut -- a legitimate top 5 center in the East
This lineup gives the best combo of offensive firepower while maintaining the necessary defensive effort to win games. Mason really is the key to it as he is the best defender of the available SF's--Simmons, Bell, or even CV. The other thing I'd like to see is Yi get more touches, as he hardly ever gets more than 10 shot attempts/games, especially lately. His defensive effort and hustle will keep him the starter for the rest of the season and forever for that matter. But when his offense comes around as we saw flashes early--look out. So the bottom line is Mason has to come back and start, and the Bucks will revert back to the form that lead to the 7-4 start and salvage a possible playoff spot. Forget about championship this year....
