I need to know for a Winterim paper I'm frantically trying to write, what percent of students are satisfied with their experience at UWM. I know they eventually ask you before you graduate, and that information must be somewhere on the net at least. I'm having a lot of difficulty locating it, and it's too late to call anybody at school.

im happy mainly because its not to difficult and it has so many sports options around it...but hate the crime and think that its getting to bad to the point where ppl will not wanna go or stay there

Thanks for your response, but I was looking for an official percentage.

Violence? Is it bad? I just applied there.

yea student was shot 2 blocks off campus but they think it has to do w. drugs...but there is robberies on campus

Bernman, I just went to uwm.edu and did a site search on "report of student satisfaction" and came across a pdf document entitled, "National Survey of Student Engagement." It's quite old (2001) but it had hard data that maybe useful to you and maybe there is a newer report out there. Hope it helps...

Tremendously Smauss! Enough so that I'm staying up a little longer to thank you. So thanks. I was on the same search...just was using slightly different phrases. I was able to use your phrase not only at UWM, but I found the answer at a few other colleges as well.

It's gotten worse recently. Around campus is where most of it happens, but late at night on campus there have been muggings and such.

Living in Sandburg Hall is really nice, though. Safe and a lot of people that you get to know because of the setup. The area around UWM isn't as bad as say South Milwaukee or just west of Marquette, but if you're not careful, things can get hairy.

As far as the school itself in terms of classes and campus, I loved it, and wished I was still there. A huge school population wise, but doesn't even come close to feeling like it because of the size of the campus.

Out of my own experience, I personally HATE UWM, but unfortunately is the only school in the area with my grad school studies. The professors in two departments in which I'm taking graduate classes in are completely inept and shouldn't even be teaching middle school classes, let alone grad classes.

Also, don't bother with advisors there as they have no fricken clue as to what they are doing

Now on the opposite end of the spectrum, i got my undergrad from UW-Oshkosh and absolutely loved it there


For the record, my opinions on both UWM and Oshkosh have nothing to do with my grades or friends at each school. I have been getting the same grades at UWM as I did at Oshkosh and when I enrolled in each school I did not know anyone else there from high school or college

If you don't mind, what are you studying? I am currently a grad student there as well. I can agree with you that some of the grad professors there seem incapable and uneducated in their studies, but others are very intellectual and enjoyable.

The professors are top-notch and the classes are very challenging. I was actually surprised because everybody said it's so easy of a school. It's very safe. They had a couple robberies this year true but they don't have a big public relations staff to keep incident reporting hushed.

The professors are great. At least in geology they were. Princeton, USC, big-time credentials. Always there to help and even help with finding jobs. The only problem with the school are the advisors and library staff. Our classes were on par with UW-Madison, except my calculus classes did not allow a notecard cheat sheet. No major complaints.

I personally don't go there, but the majority of my high-school friends do. From what I hear, their is a misconception that it is easy just because of how many people are admitted.

Yeah my professors are very challenging as well. Not exactly sure where the ineptitude comes in IMO.

A number of bars, brew-pubs, restaurants, coffeehouses, and other entertainment establishments are located along the corridor starting at the east end of Brady Street and following the Milwaukee River south to Wisconsin Avenue as Brady Street turns into Water Street. (Water is paralleled on the west side of the river by Old World Third Street/Plankinton Avenue.) New establishments are opening on a regular basis in this corridor.

The most active parts are likely on Brady Street from its intersection with Prospect & Oakland on the east to Humboldt Avenue on the west, and on Water/Old World Third Street/Plankinton next to Milwaukee's Riverwalk, which runs roughly from Knapp or Juneau on the north to Wisconsin Avenue on the south. The Brady Street area is less than 1 mile from the Astor, Park East, and Plaza hotels. Reasonable prudence is advised when walking at night.
