Rumor: Harris Agreed To Randolph Trade/Kohl Nixed It

Post#1 » by europa » Fri Jan 18, 2008 7:16 pm

I thought this was deserving of its own thread given how much discussion we've had about the work Harris has done and how much has or hasn't been impacted by Kohl.

According to xTitan, Harris agreed to the Randolph trade with the Knicks but Kohl shot it down. xTitan can add more if he chooses but if this is true, I'll just repeat what I wrote in the other thread:

And people wonder why I've lost confidence in Harris.
Nothing will not break me.

I go back and forth on that one.

Randolph is a legit double/double every night. Balkman may end up being a fine role player. Simmons is worthless, as is Gadzuric.

The cancer factor doesn't get any bigger than Zach Randolph, though.

I'd probably make the deal, though.

What does it matter??? Harris does not make any decisions anyway. At least Harris was willing to try something. I dont know if it would have worked out or not and I did not support the trade but at least he realizes a move probably needs to be made to salvage his job and our playoff chances.

If you make the deal you'd be saying goodbye to Bogut and mostly setting yi back....Randolph has never been on a team close to winning, I don't see how another no defense, ball hogging, low IQ player helps get you to the playoffs.

That's not really a good defense. Trading Yi and Bogut for Travis Diener would be trying something too.

Getting rid of Simmons/Gadz is somewhat tempting but IMO you can't take on Randolph. Way too much of a risk of setting back Bogut and Yi's games and possibly alienating from the team.

It's a situation that could have some disastrous results. Since the reward isn't that high, I'd pass on the risk.

Yeah, it doesn't make any sense to add a max contract frontcourt player when we have Bogut who we need to extend pretty soon.

You have to hope that when the deals start to wind down with Simmons or Gadzuric they have some value so we can move them for something.

Acquiring Zach means we are tied to Zach for three more years. That does not excite me as a fan.

i know it's crazy and i'll be crucified, but i'm only 80/20 on not doing the randolph deal. I wish he only had something like a year left so it could be a bit of an experiment. Given how much longer he has and the level of pay, I can't be convinced it's worth the risk and there's no way Kohl is willing to take that gamble. But come on, you gotta figure he's got some competitive fire in him somewhere that just needs to be tapped.

In this case, I'm glad he didn't. But if he had let him in the first place this wouldn't even be coming up as we would have Boozer on our roster.

would you mind rehashing that rumor? Was boozer potentially coming to milwaukee via trade or free agent signing? Also, was this before or after the bucks had drafted bogut?

Not shocking...if LH wants to be back as GM next year he needs *something* to happen. That's the problem with letting your GM work with an expiring deal...even if he's not trying to be short-sighted, you can't blame him if he's more trigger happy than normal.

But for the Bucks Harris is more of an agent for ownership rather than a decision-maker, so I suppose the end result isn't very different anyway.

How do you not know the deal?

It was Mo/Magloire for Boozer. Kohl nixed it b/c Boozer was coming off two disappointing injury filled years and still had 3 years left on his deal.

It's Herb's team.

Larry has shown a record of drafting well, but his trades have been suspect to say the least and his FA moves have been "average". If I were Kohl, I wouldn't let him make moves like that either. Maybe keep Harris on to draft again, but trading should not be an option Harris has, unless approved by the owner.

I'll just re-post my response in the other thread,
You guys just got realize that Harris is just trying to save his job.

A starting lineup of Mo/Redd/Randolph/Bogut is a playoff team in the East, despite probably not being good for the long-term IMO.

Europa, the other day I commented on this trade by saying it was alot closer to getting done than what the media had stated. This is what I was talking about. We were actually told we are heading to New York. It was Kohl`s call to stop it at the last minute.

I tip my hat to Harris for trying to improve the team, it`s just really unfortunate when people have been hired to do a job, only to not be allowed to do it. This will make it even tougher to get a top tier GM in here after Harris goes after this year.

Xtitan definitely has inside info to know about this.
