Anyone interested in this? I know we had some great tennis discussion over the summer in this forum.

Just watched a good match between Hewitt/Baghdatis, which Leyton was able to pull out. (Do Aussies hate really hate Hewitt, as I have heard?)

Right now watcing Federer/Tipsarevic, who I have heard from more than one person is the best match they have ever seen. (Its a replay, on ESPN2 right now if anyone is interested, and please don't spoil the ending!!)

i watched the federer match live last night...i was up til about 4:30...it was one of the most intense sports spectacles i've seen in a while...definitely worth watching...federer is just absurdly good at what he does

reason to watch the aussie open? Ana Ivanovic.

For the first time in years, Federer is not sure mathematically he is going to be #1 at the end of the tournament which makes it even more interesting...Federer needs to be in the semis to keep #1 position, and its schedule is pretty tougher than Nadal's: he has Djokovic, Hewitt, Berdych, Blake, Nalbandian and Ferrer in his side of the draw, while Nadal's only threats before the final are Youzhny, Gasquet, Davydenko and maybe Mathieu. I hope Federer keeps #1, because I'm a huge fan of him!

Here to you, I found another reason to see the aussie open besides Ana Ivanovic, who is a big, BIG, reason...

What a match.

Top 5 match I have ever seen. Its funny because first game or two the guy didn't look like he even belong on the same court as Federer (missing easy volleys, hitting routine shots long, etc.)

Still give the best to Agassi/Blake in 05 U.S. Open, but man this was just crazy.

The Fed is vulnerable afterall!

Some people mistake his hyper-competitive behaviour as being poor sporting behaviour.

I think he's great to watch because he will play a 5 setter without losing his motivation.

I love Hewitt's game. I think he is very consistent and probably the most underrated player in the game. He is like a poor man's Nadal but honestly would be just as good if he had any weapon. Just one of those guys who does EVERYTHING above average, but nothing great.

Doesn't have Roddick's serve, or Federer's forehand or anything of that nature.

If not for his whole racist episode, I think he would be a top 3 favorite player for me.

He needs to hit the gym, his sister can bench more than him.

He is good at everything, he was #1 for like 2 years.

Those pat rafter matches at wimbledon were classics.
Rafter 6-7 (10-12), 7-6 (7-5), 6-4, 6-2 loss to sampras in 2000 final.
Rafter 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, 2-6, 9-7 loss to goran in 2001 final.

I think it was Ronnie Johns (could be someone else) who summed up the way aussies feel about Lleyton Hewitt pretty well

It's great to see our Aussie posters commenting on a sport they understand. For relatively small population, Australian has for a long time produces great tennis. I think Laver was my favorite, but there was a big serving Austrialian at the same time (who's name escapes me) who was impressive with his huge serve.

But yes, Laver is arguably the greatest tennis player of all time IMO.

My olds are at the tennis today. But if I'm them I'd be a bit pissed that I wasn't at the tennis yesterday with that ridiculous Federer match and Hewitt's marathon (allbeit in different sessions).

It must really frustrate you that you were the 23 yr old virgin nerd sitting at home with mom, building model plains and planning your revenge on the jocks that picked on you, while never being allowed to play sport as you had to wear a stack hat 24/7 due to having a soft skull.

Starting with the Any Roddick match and ending with the Hewitt match that had to be the best stretch of mens tennis ever played.

Such projection from you, but a nice opportunity for me to recall when I was 23. I was then in Gardez, Afghanistan in the Peace Corps teaching English at the Lycee during the warmer months and then in Kabul during the months the mountain passes were not passable. In Kabul and nearby provincial towns, I and a couple other guys conducted basketball clinics. The latter was good preparation for coaching junior high basketball in Cleveland and then Guam. Both of which were a good foundation for coaching basketball and being an athletic director at an Arizona community college. You really don't want to compare resumes, lad. And you really could live and watch basketball for the next 50 years and you still won't catch up, manly because, no offense, you just don't understand the sport.
