TI NJ: No Kidd/VC temporary fix

Here's my trade idea with NJ that isn't a band-aid fix that the Kidd and Carter trades I have seen are. Don't get me wrong Kidd is great, but he's not the same player he was and how much longer does he play at this level? Carter is on the back 9 while Redd is still on his front 9 so why swap these players? I want a deal that addresses needs while sets the roster for the future, so here goes my first ever proposed trade (note: it is trade checker approved):

Milwaukee sends:

Mike Redd
Charlie V

NJ sends:

Richard Jefferson
Jason Collins

Why for Milwaukee:
It fills our weakest position SF with a guy that doesn't settle for jumpers and gets to the rim. He's a guy used to being a 3rd option and will fill in nicely with the Mo-Yi-Bogut group that seems to work well together. Collins is a banger that can add to the group of bangers off the bench. CV is gone after next year anyway so he needs to be moved. Mase can move to the SG and can focus just on playing defense and slashing to the hoop with Bell and Ivey getting minutes at the guard. We stay young enough but are more balanced IMO. If things work well in the lottery we take one of the stud guards (Rose, Bayless, Mayo) and either move Mo to the off guard or move him at that point for a SG.

Why for NJ:
Redd had a good raport with Kidd and could be ultra effective with him as the PG. VC can easily play the 3 and give them a very dangerous scoring group. CV moves back home (or near home) and gives them the scoring PF they have lacked and another offensive threat for Kidd to dish too. Given the ages of Kidd and VC, they can still try to win now in a weak eastern conference.

And this makes us better how? I do like RJ, but is he better than Redd? I have my doubts.

The only proproblem with Cams trade is that you now have 3 highly paid SF's are your roster and a terrible backcourt....if you could move Mason or Simmons for a quality guard, who might be able to run your offense then I would say yes....but we both know that won't happen.

It makes us better by making us less reliant on jump shooting and more team focused. By moving the guy who commands the most shots it allows us to focus on interior play and getting to the rim. And we eliminate 2 weak defenders while adding 2 good defenders.

I like Redd and CV and I think individually are the better players in this deal. However I think adding two team players helps our selfish team.

Hasn't Richard Jefferson been complaining about limited shot attempts since VC got to NJ?

I agree with the SF and backcourt issue. For this year Mase can play the SG and hopefully we land one of the good PG in the draft. If that is the case than in the offseason we can either move Mo for a SG or consider Mo at the off guard.

It still leaves us with Simmons and Gadz who need to go but it starts the roster transformation at least.

I'd gladly take RJ over Redd.

Yes, but he comes to a team without chuckers like VC or Redd. If Mo is a chucker with this group than he is expendable with the drafting of a PG in this years draft. Not to mention RJ was on a team he got more attempts until VC was added. I think moving to another team he wouldn't feel like shots were being taken from him.

I'd like a CV for Boki Nachbar trade.

Then try to con LAL into Gadz for Vlad Rad.

Yep.....

Then you get your new guard in the draft this summer.

In the offseason try to move some combination of Bell/CV/Dez/Simmons for some complimentary players to a core of Bogut/Yi/RJ/Mo/#1 pick.

Jefferson is much better than Redd on the defensive end, but Mike probably blows him away offensively. RJ is not adept at creating his own shot, hurts spacing, and is one of the many beneficiaries over the years of the Jason Kidd magic. His rebounding has really gone to hell the last few years as well. I'd reluctantly keep Mike in this scenario.

i like it. but i'd be inclined to just do a straight swap of redd and rj. move mo to the 2, start ivey and i think we've got a decent team.

rj will get the shots he needs without redd on this team, no doubt about that.
