WTMJ Sports Central tonight (Bucks discussion)

I listened to Bill Michaels tonight on the way home from work. He was talking about the Bucks. I think the tide is turning with perceptions in this town because usually WTMJ is the flagship that sees no evil, hears no evil, etc.....

I think Michaels is a pro, but he's muzzled by where he works. Tonight he was talking a little bit about making Ron Walter accountable as the really the guy who is watching over day to day operations for Herb.

Then he read a number of emails that had relatively scathing fan frustrations regarding Michael Redd and the team....Then Michaels went off on Redd as well, talking about how Redd's got to play both ways and be a team guy to deserve his big salary. Talked about how Kobe goes all out on defense by way of example and Redd doesn't.

Normally WTMJ Bucks talk consists of some kids calling up asking whether they think trading Gadz for Marcus Camby would be a good idea. This was different....I think things are changing here just a bit.

Did any of you hear this where you could add to it?

I usually don't listen to Michaels because I think he is one of the biggest tools in Milwaukee but damn if he does this every night I might have to start listening to him.

It would be great if the guys at WTMJ could/would start ripping into local teams more when they deserve it. It always seems like their balls are in a vice grip though.

This weekend I was also listening to WTMJ and the host was asking who was to blame for the Bucks problems and majority of the callers said Herb Kohl. The host agreed. The callers were pretty intelligent on whats going on with Kohl and his inner circle...possibly posters on this board. Also old time fans calling in and talking about how Herb needs the power and whenever a good coach like Don Nelson or George Karl comes in that Herb and his inner-circle cant handle them having having some power in the organization.

Word is for sure getting out on this poorly run franchise.

So would Lester from Cudahy....and that usually is the extent of WTMJ Bucks talk.....five minutes of inane callers. But again, tonight was different....Big Unit brought the heat.....

There is a window now between Packers/Brewers where the local media can focus on the Bucks. I agree usually it's all puff on TMJ but I like the fact Michaels actually brought some fire. It's about damn time.

As an example....he read an email from some guy who essentially said...."Why can't Michael Redd play D? All we get from this guy is dribble, dribble, shoot from 3 and point his finger at the sky. The God I know would want him to be a two-way player and would feel he is stealing money from the Bucks....that's all I can say"

Michaels himself then made some comment along the lines about how Michael can't plan on taking "57 shots" every night......

My anti Ron Walter campaign seems to be catching on more lately

Maybe the pressure will build enough to where Kohl ends up firing Ron Walter? Yeah, probably not. But one can dream, right?
And taking Ron Walter out of the equation could really be helpful for this franchise, especially if Kohl allows the GM to have the type of influence that Ron Walter currently has.

Ron Walter being mentioned BY NAME on the flagship is big progress. Gery Woelfel has recently been mentioning him by name on the air on WSSP, whereas prior to that he never got mentioned by name, just vaguely referred to sometimes on WSSP and in that one semi-recent Michael Hunt column.

If this continues, perhaps there would be a "man behind the curtain" Wizard of Oz type of moment for this franchise.

I suppose it could ultimately not mean all that much if Ron Walter were fired, since Kohl could always just listen to another crony when he would normally listen to Ron Walter, but I'm not sure if it is possible for any other crony to give such terrible basketball operations advice. Ron Walter's basketball operations advice is beyond atrocious, so I don't see how his removal wouldn't be a positive for the Bucks.

We all know Boozer and Marion. But what about that Artest for Simmons deal? Who nixed that one ultimately? Are there more that you know of but we don't?

You guys are nuts. If anything Ron Walter should have more power. I'd be in favor of completely turning the organization over to the steady hand of Mr. Walter, so long as Andrea Williams can serve as his personal advisor on basketball related issues.
