With more upper body strength, this kid will be a monster because he will be able to play inside, outside, and block a few shots. His potential is scary.

Am I seeing things or has he been better about not getting the ball ripped out of his hands on rebounds of late? In the first couple months it seemed like he was having the ball pulled out of his hands two or three times a game, whereas lately he hasn't been rebounding particularly well but he's at least not getting outmuscled constantly.

Even if he doesn't a lot stronger up top I think the experience factor will help a lot down low. He still seems unsure of himself when he's trying to score around the hoop...sometimes he pump fakes when he doesn't have to, other times he goes right up when he shouldn't. They don't have many NBA athletes in China unfortunately...

Once he hits the weight room and bulks up, we will look back at his rookie year and we will not believe how skinny he was .

with the right diet and weight training he could end up like Dwight Howard. :D

Did he call Roger Clemens for that program or something?

Look at the last half dozen games, how many shot attempt(s) per game did he take?

Not sure if the team is setting him for the offense. It's been Redd/Bogut. And when Redd is out, it's been Mo/Bogut.

Yi's shot attempt(s) is very comparable to those of Jake Voshkul.

he'd get more if he actually picked up the ball each time it was passed to him. His fingers have the torsional strength of soggy french fries lately.

Besides needing to develop strength Yi also needs to quit rushing his shots/moves. I see improvements though.

Many of his lost rebounds or missed putbacks could be avoided if he focused on holding onto the ball before making his second moves. It's not so much the grip strenght. Inexperience is all it really is. The guy's got to read the game better and focus on grabbing the ball.

Another thing is that he has excellent speed and quickness for a Big--which doesn't always work in his favor. His moves are RAW and at times sloppy. He gets away with some of them because of his quickness/recovery. It's good to see that he is actually learning to refine his moves though. Someone must be working with him in practice on this.

Example: Compare his spin move vs Dirk to the one in the Nets game. Normally Yi hops/shuffles both his feet forward to create separation as he leans backward to spin around the defender on his way to the hoop. He now merely moves his right foot forward and simultaneously seals off the defender as he spins. Less wasted effort and hella quicker to seal off the defender because he can feel him on his back. Same result, he needs only 1 dribble to get to the hole! Nice considering he starts his move near the 3pt arc.

Next step is to learn to pivot as a way to find angles/separation AND the DROPSTEP to the hoop while sheilding the ball with his upper body. He has the quickness and coordination to do this.

Plus, he still must learn to finish on either side of the basket and especially to work on his backdoor shots. The guy is still trying to finish directly under the rim at times. Why when he can use the rim to sheild his shot?

Work on a short hook like he did on predraft workouts. He's pretty much got the fade away jumper down.
