Sources: Bobcats reach agreement with Boykins

By Marc Stein

The Charlotte Bobcats, knowing they need an offensive boost to help them cope with a road-heavy schedule in the second half of the season, have reached an agreement with free-agent guard Earl Boykins for the rest of the season, according to NBA front-office sources.

The signing is expected to be formally announced by the Bobcats later Thursday or Friday, with Boykins potentially in uniform Friday night when the Bobcats (No. 12 in the East at 18-28 ) visit Golden State.

Boykins has been working out on his own all season and looking for a new team since last summer, when he opted out of the final year of his contract with Milwaukee (worth $3 million) after averaging 14 points and 4.5 assists with the Bucks following a January trade from Denver.

I'm happy for him, I was thankful when he opted out and now we all know how much that extra cap space really put us over the top. Good for him getting checks again. I believe he's in our all-time record books for 3s.

I rather him take less money to play on the Bobcats then to see some Bucks fan complain about how small our pgs are and hang him from the big screen. Wizard of Oz is the only place I want to see a midget hanging.

I don't feel like doing the math, but Boykins very likely signed for the minimum salary, which for Boykins would be $1,108,718 this season, but then that gets prorated to reflect how much of the season has gone by already.

Subtract that from the $3 mil he opted out of and I would guess he will end up costing himself $2.5 mil in salary this season.

Even if he was told he would get limited minutes, did nobody take him aside and say "You know, $3million is a lot of money for a 5'5" guy to get paid to play basketball"?

Hey guys, what do you think of Earl's game. What are some of his strenghts and weaknesses. Obviously his size. However, I knew that he can score, often times amazingly so. Can he also set up other teammates etc?

So today I read that Earl "doesn't regret" passing up the $3 million...

Really?

That didn't hurt just a little bit Earl? Those payday Fridays that you were receiving absolutely zero when your single check would have been more than most people make in a year didn't hurt Earl?

Really?

Did you just hate the Bucks that much, or was it just that tough to fit the C-notes in your tiny little pockets? You didn't miss the money?

Really?

Earl is in denial, and Earl is in need of a business manager with a bit more common sense than his current manager has/had.
