interesting, yet scary rumor

Since we all like rumors, I was getting into my car awhile ago and was listening to Steve "the homer" True.....he does something he calls his guarantee of the week, True is generally pretty conserative with them unless he has some good inside info, and he does have some decent sources once in awhile, not alot.....my point is he is usually pretty good with this stuff. Homer said that Larry Harris will be fired at the end of the year (I am of this belief right now, as I think Harris is)....here is where it gets scary........Homer predicts his successor will be promoted from within. The caller tried to get a name but he would not say, safe to say it would be Babcock, since he is the only viable puppet, Larry K. could not handle the job. This rumor makes sense to me simply because no GM with a damn bit of credibility would work for Kohl and his legion of failure. If this move happens, I am done, it will be more of the same, with no hope in sight.

Harris' contract is up at the end of the year, I don't think it takes any "inside" sources to say he's not going to return. As for the next GM, yes I certainly think it will be another puppet.

If that happens, I wonder if Kohl will bother to hire another front office person to fill in the hole left by an in-house promotion like that. Babcock gets promoted to GM, and then DPP is vacant. If someone else is promoted from within to fill DPP, then that person's position is vacant, and so on and so on.
When Dan Kohl (Herb's nephew) left, Senator Kohl did not even bother to hire a guy to fill the vacancy, he just basically distributed the workload among Harris and Babcock (mostly to Babcock). It would be another example of cost cutting on that most franchises spend money on. I know we talk about how Kohl has been willing to spend money on player salary in the past, and even on a head coach twice (Dunleavy, then Karl), but we skimp on everything else possible it seems and that is one of the reasons we have such a piss poor reputation as a franchise among players, agents, and anyone else who works/operates in NBA circles.
But I can totally see Kohl not hiring another front office guy. Kohl, Walter, et al run the show anyway, so even if Babcock gets a title promotion, he would essentially be doing the same thing he is doing right now. We pretty much have two DPPs as it is, Harris just happens to currently hold the title of GM and Babcock reports to him.

That's because things are so dysfunctional here that we can't get potential puppets not already within the organization to come here. You know its bad when Rick Sund, Rick effing Sund, would rather pursue the Northwestern AD job than be an NBA GM if his only opportunity to do so is for the Bucks.

Dan Kohl, I have to chuckle...his official title was "information leaker" because from what I heard, thats all he did......nepotism is a beautiful thing....I always thought Dan was Woelfel's info guy.

That could be.
But his original position with the Bucks was "Salary Cap Specialist" and he continued to fill that role up until he left. They never filled that position and while Harris has a pretty good understanding of the CBA and the salary cap, Dave Babcock does not and the Bucks are not as strong in that department as they should be. Many things just never occur to them because there is no longer anyone there specifically looking at things from that perspective.
And just so no one gets the wrong idea, I am not interested in such a position with the Bucks

Sounds like "end of year" means Dec 2008. Is that right? Wouldn't they jettison him after this season's end - so the purported fresh start could happen sooner?
When one expects something good from the Bucks, it normally turns sour. This looks like a sour move - so probably it will turn out great. Unfettered by dissenting opinions, Herb will spend like a sailor (a 72-year-old sailor with no taste for delayed gratification). The moguls in China will commit to sell 100 million sweatshirts for any notable free agent that signs here. Kohl will happily pay tons of luxury tax. We'll be lucky in the lottery and lucky in making the choice. Milwaukee will be the promised land... Finals in 2008-09!

End of the year in this case means end of the season.

Do people have as many complaints about Babcock specifically, or just that there's no chance it wouldn't be more of the same tribunal stuff?
There's not as much easy ammo for a "Cockblocked by Babcock" thread as for Rick Sund. And I've probably noticed less complaints over time here about Babcock than anyone else in mgmt.
I guess the way things are set up everything would be exactly the same if this happens, except for losing one of our "best scouts" and asking another one to do both of their work.

You could tell this was coming six weeks ago when I had my Babcock or Harris thread.
We've seen and heard a ton from Babcock on the media here, starting with the drafting of Yi last June. Before that nothing.
My guess is that Herb's allowed Dave more airtime and facetime to see how he presents himself. An audition of sorts. And he does present and sound good in the media IMO. That's who Herb needs. Someone out front to talk with the fans so he can hide in the backroom on RealGm and make the deals.

I think if Babcock were named GM his first move would be to immediately sign Ersan Ilyasova to a 6 year, 52 million dollar deal.

I am not surprised at all. Babcock didn't fly to Washington to catch up on old times with "Old Unky Herb".
If this does happen I will feel sorry for all Bucks fans and could only describe the Bucks as a whore's corpse that still has it's fingernails and hair growing, only the Senator and his cronies are convinced that it's a sign of life. So they plaster on some fresh lipstick and expect the fans to get excited and horny, convinced that there is still a buck to be earned.
